Some People! (wasn't sure how to name this thread).
So I have a bunch of middle income rental properties (mostly 2 family houses). I keep the rents below market by $100 or so. Smaller, Clean, well lit, safe, nice neighborhood living.
So the other day I'm removing snow and the 20 year old son comes down and yells at me that there's No Heat! And it's been only 10 degrees lately. News to me.
So I ask how long has it been as I want these things fixed in hours not days. He says the apt has Never had heat! what?! So go into the apt and it's Hot (like 75 degrees). You have heat I say. He says there's no heat in the bedrooms. Yes I say, it's a gas central heater (like a gas fire place). As I look around, nearly Every window is wide Open! What the Hell do you have your windows open for?! And since when!? He says, We never closed them since Summer!

not trying to sound like an insensitive jerk, but why is she behind on rent? I can understand if someone lost their job but surely the 20 yo son is working and can contribute somehow.

She lost her job and her sons a jerk (anger issues). She's a nice person but is burying her head in the sand. I'll give her another month then start the eviction. As long as someone keeps communications open and is working on getting a job and making an effort, I will give all kinds of slack. But not answering the door, phone, text. and I'm done trying to help.

that sucks. I feel bad for anyone that lost their job and is trying to survive, but at the same time, you have obligations too. I know a guy that also has a rental unit and he told me of a time when he had a horrible tenant that wouldn't vacate the property after failing to pay rent. I think it eventually got to the point where he got the sherrif involved and had her stuff removed from the apartment and the locks changed.

You move give me the apt in clean condition and I'll give $ (usually one months rent). Cheeper then going through the entire eviction process.

This is frustrating for sure, and I know you're not doing it just to be a Good Samaritan, but congrats to you for offering affordable housing to folks who need it.

Oh I hate tenants, I own a 2 family house. I live on the 1at floor with my wife and kids. The 2nd floor intent which is a duplex and the tenants complain that it's to hot when I have the heat at 68/70 degrees. I can't wait until there lease is up so me the wife and kids can renovate and move up stairs and rent the 1st floor.

my rant of the day: I stopped at my local co-op to pick up a brand of natural toothpaste (SLS/Carrageenan free)and when I went up to pay for it the cashier asked me if I wanted to round up. I said no thanks but I left feeling irritated that she even asked because the co-op made 30+ million in annual sales in 2016 and they pay their employees sh*t wages. I guess I didn't understand why a for-profit co-op would tell its cashiers to ask customers if they'd like to round up their purchases when they clearly make more than enough revenue. It's one thing if a cashier at Goodwill, a non-profit, asks and then says it will benefit their employees, but another thing entirely when it's an overpriced co-op that makes a sh*t ton of money but can't seem to pay their employees a decent wage. The cashier didn't even say where the extra money would go should I have rounded my purchase up.
Amirite?

When you round up, that money is donated to a charity, usually something like a food shelf. When asked, I say yes. Again, other co-ops may be different, but at Seward, it is NOT revenue.

I go there enough that they kind of know me, so they don't really tell me where its going...they just ask, "round up?". If you are curious, there is a large TV screen behind the express check out area that usually says where the donations are going for that month.

i used to park like that at my old office park because all the surrounding companies plus only used like 20 spaces max in a large parking lot.
Not sure why it bothered people when it wasn't even close to any cars.

so my son has gotten into the habit of collecting rocks for some reason. I don't know if this is typical of children his age but whatever. My ex brought him to my place the other day and my son's coat pockets are bulging with rocks. He was really excited to show me the rocks he got from the nature reserve his mom took him to, so I obliged. We get inside and he starts taking them out one by one and lo and behold, amongst the pile of rocks was a dried out blackened piece of dog sh*t that he mistook for a rock. I freaked out and told him it was poop. It's bad enough that he had his hands on a piece of crap but that my ex failed to monitor what he was picking up off the ground and managed to let a turd slip past the goal keeper.
Any of you experience stuff like this? I had my boy wash the hell out of his hands and use sanitizer after this experience.

i've read similar articles regarding the efficacy of anti-bacterial soap. I let my son use hand sanitizer sparingly but keep anti-bacterial foaming soap in my bathroom. My son also on occasion spends time at grandma and grandpa's dairy farm, so he is indeed surrounded by cow crap. I didn't yell at him when he pulled that turd out of his pocket -- my reaction was more of revulsion than anything. I'm more irritated that my ex wasn't paying attention to what our son was doing. Feces can cause illness, especially from the Canada Goose. I don't want my boy picking up poop of any kind because he puts his hands in his mouth, so that was my lesson to him the other day. Getting dirty from playing is one thing but handling poop is another that i'd like for him to avoid entirely.

I'm wearing a pair of pants that Ive worn over a hundred times and haven't washed. I've picked up lots of dog poop, some not even my dog's, changed my kid's diapers, handled raw chicken, beef and lamb and rubbed all kinds of bodily fluids on them. There are stains on these that might even be eligible for a social security number. I'm fine. I'll lick them just for good measure.
Given the stupid shit I did as a kid, a dog turd is pretty low on the list of things I'd be worried about finding in his pockets. Have a drink, breathe deep, go easy on the little turd collecter.
