I am putting it in writing, right here, that I will refrain from buying any new gear in 2017. I will only be able to buy white tees and underwear if needed. This is happening. I have more than enough to sustain a lifetime at this point, so I need to "pull a DigDug" and step back.
2017 will be the year of me focusing on what I have, not what I want.

2017 will be the year of me focusing on what I have, not what I want. this is where i'm at. I pretty much have everything I need clothing wise....everything else is a want. the only way I might be persuaded to buy something is if the price is too good to pass up. The other part is, there honestly hasn't been anything that's come out that I felt like I absolutely must buy. I'm sure that would all come to a screeching halt if BOW had another one of their blowout sales, but overall i'm simply enjoying what I have rather than focusing on that next coveted item that will ultimately sit in my closet like the rest of my stuff.

Ugh, I would like to do that, but since I began my raw / selvedge bend I can't stop. So far I have 4 pairs of 511 selvedge from Levi's 2 pairs of slim straights from brave star and 2 pairs of Chelsea's from left field. I just need 2 RGTs and maybe 2 pairs of PBJ...

Understandable. I actually have about 10 flannels a few leather goods such as wallets. I have quiet a few jackets so I know I'm fine with that part. Now as for boots. I need some good boots. I agree with what you are saying about this hobby. It is very expensive, but after my next 2/4 purchases I'll clam the storm down. Well at least try to.

to add, a lot of us got our start with Gustin and after the novelty of their business model wore off we all abandoned ship and tried different brands. we started cheap and then gradually went to the more expensive brands either due to fit, better quality control, style, or all of the above. I've tried many different brands and now that I own a bunch of stuff I honestly can't say I have a favorite. I like some brands and could leave other brands. that's the thing that sucks about denim, you invariably wind up trying different brands to see what works best for you and after spending hundreds or thousands of dollars you either give up or you realize you've just wasted a sh*t ton of money. we're also a bunch of enablers here on this forum, so that doesn't help either.

I see what you're saying. Right now I'm trying to figure out what fit is best for me. As in slim straight or slim tapered. I love them both, so it's somewhat hard to figure out which I'll stick with.

I want a pair of color #8 shell tankers from Alden, probably the one on ePaulet, but besides that, I will only use the money I get from returns and gift cards.

One of the challenges for me here is that I recently went from 238 lbs down to 203 lbs. Now I have a bunch of crap that is too big. Not that I'm complaining, but it throws a wildcard into the mix. LOL Anyway, this is going to be very tough. Even getting by 12 days has been challenging! ha ha
I've been following a strict diet and workout plan.

Justify a purchase with what ever makes you feel better. But, to help you sleep better. I've heard that it's not alway a good thing to tackle two problems/goals at the same time (i.e. A weight and spending diet). You can't slave for two masters.

I think I may begin this soon (Feb 1). I've been really focused of late on not really wanting/needing anything, but I would like to perhaps pick-up one higher-end pair of denim to work on during this process. Just paid off my truck and I'm essentially in full savings mode from here on out. My focus is more on my next move later in the year, I think I can safely avoid a lot of purchases right now.

Pizza and IPA are a lot cheaper than new clothes. You can fix this!

Pizza and IPA are a lot cheaper than new clothes. You can fix this! That's my Friday night/weekend diet. But that is in part because I mountain bike every weekend. Which means I'm inspired to spend money on a new bike. It's a vicious cycle. Pizza. Beer. Bike. Repeat.

Can i suggest an Evil Wreckoning? I'm a DW link guy (just built an Ibis, and have a Pivot before that)...but once I justify it in my head, I clearly need one of these too.

Haha. So much good stuff going on. The flip chip to slack it out, the bottom crown race can be reversed to slacken the head angle. Probably the most tuneable setup for flipping between a more upright and xc-ish 29er to a slack and slow 650+ setup. Saving my pennies for an Eagle and Enve build.
Enve 29er wheels for Texas and 650+ ibis 742's for NM and CO.
