I love either of my herringbone work shirts (IHSH-154, G American hb) enough to replace them. But, I don't believe I would necessarily have to replace them with the same brand. I think there would be suitable replacements, from other makers. Although, it might be very tough to find something comparable to the fabric on the 154.
I think the shirt that will fall into this category is the one I don't own, yet ! I plan on nabbing an IHSH-170. If it looks as good IRL, or better, as I think it will, it will definitely be the "one".

I'll have to go with a staple, TS Olive Mechanics.

I'll have to go with a staple, TS Olive Mechanics. Yes! That one is a close runner up. But I went with the Wabash because it's lighter and can be worn year round. I love the Olive Machanics shirt. I actually wear it quite often with a wool tie. Looking forward to the HBone machanics.

My favorite is the chambray lined twill indigo double cloth that lawless sold as chambray. I've got two of them since I bought one from brentcuz back when he existed, but my favorite is the green thread/green snaps. It's a little big to wear as a shirt typically (sized as an over shirt), so the second one I picked up (contrast yellow stitching black snaps) gets a good bit of wear, also. Neither can be replaced as far as I know, I'd have to hope for pbj to run theirs again, and hope I'm small enough to fit into it.
Traveling, though, one of those sturdy oxford cloths from gustin or whomever has to be the way to go for a "one shirt". Dresses up or down just by ironing, tucking, or rolling the sleeves. The button-down collar will only turn up noses in certain circles that don't really travel, anyway, but you know if that's the situation you're headed into.

Both northcoast and exophobe got it. I think definite go-to for me is the Mechanics from TS (I have black and olive). The fit for me is spot on. I'd also second LD's shirt offerings. I have the twill indigo and a Candiani "Oregon" work shirt - both of these are top layer shirts but the fit and quality are great.

I have oxfords from several different companies, but the standard blue G oxford I have is by far my favorite solid oxford shirt to wear. It's hard to sell someone on a piece like that but the fabric feels so much nicer than any other oxford I own. One of these days I'll buy their green offering as well.

The Gustin/Thomas Mason oxford collab is a really nice staple in my closet. Really great option to dress up in a suit or down with denim.

IHSH-58, white selvedge chambray workshirt. I already have 2, and I'll probably buy one every now and then throughout the coming years. Excellent fit, soft chambray. Even I can button all the way to the top around my thick neck! Not to mention, I'm thinking of dying them to make custom colors, as well.

I have a lot of nice shirts, but there's just something about my Levi's sawtooth denim shirt . . .

Agree that an Oxford or chambray is a staple. Prior to hanging out here, I really only had solid shirts for interviews, but now my closet is pretty evenly split between checked dress shirts and more casual, mostly solid oxfords and chambrays.

Great looking shirt. I keep forgetting that they added that two pocket design. i suppose I'll order that just with a non button down collar.

i like my kingman shirt from Manny and would rebuy it if it ever got lost or stolen...I would just get a different fabric as it has become my most used overshirt.

I used to be adamantly against button downs, but now I prefer them. I don't like when collars wing out. I hardly ever wear ties though. In the rare instances I do wear a tie, I prefer no button down.

Just personal preference. I don't like button down collars with button pockets. Too many buttons going on. I don't mind a button down collar with a single, non buttoned pocket. I really only wear a tie with shirts with no pockets. Again, entirely a personal preference. I also find that outside of Gustin's unstructured collars, I don't have an issue with collars flipping up or not sitting right.

I was just going for the broad category of four lumberjacks. Cheap joke. But am curious which four you'd put up. I actually find that I don't have a favorite shirt, which is bringing me down. Time to buy more shirts.

I also have a Highlands Organic Chambray and like mine a lot. Went with the button down collar personally and makes for a great sporty summer shirt paired with shorts. Doesn't hurt that Ratio shirts are a perfect fit. As far as the "one shirt" I'd have to replace, it'd have to be my Ratio Wine Campus Oxford. I don't dress up much beyond flannels and chambrays, but when I do need to get a little dressier that's typically my go to shirt. Not that it's a "dressy" shirt though, it's so versatile and the color is unique enough to keep it fun and less office uniform. For $100 I'd recommend it to anybody who's never worn a MTO shirt, it's a pretty good value. www.ratioclothing.com/products/wine-campus-oxford
