I still haven't received my x026's. A week has gone by so yesterday I contacted them asking what the deal is with my order. I hadn't received a shipping confirmation in a week and no communication at all about my order. They are in LA and with me being in Phx I easily expected to have my jeans within a week. to their credit they replied very promptly and apparently they are making my order from scratch because my size was out of stock. It would have been nice to have this communicated to me from the get go so I'm not sitting here wondering what is going on with my order. I guess it's cool they are making me a pair from scratch.
Not a great start to my experience with Railcar but I will say they were prompt, apologetic, and straight forward in our email communcations.

Did I mention Sammys? You'd have had them by now. I've never heard anything but greatness about Railcar, so hopefully they just assumed you were Incognito Roman and were ignoring your order for the good of mankind.

I know I've nothing but great things about them too. Nothing that I'm super upset about but still they should notify the customer of the situation in those instances. I also picked up a puck of their pomade because I've heard great things about that as well believe it or not.

Let me know how you like the hair goo. Been happy with Baxter and Malin and Goetz, but have been curious about Railcar's too.

Which Baxters do you use bentin?

Which Baxters do you use bentin? I have the Clay, Soft Water and Cream. Don't recall if I've used the Cream. But the Soft Water is really mild and I tend to use it for the first two or three weeks after a hair cut and use the much heavier Clay the last week or two to keep shit under control. The Malin and Goetz is somewhere between those two Baxters and works for the three or four weeks between hair cuts. Currently my favorite, except for maybe the first week of a fresh hair cut when the Soft Water is really ideal. One weird note, the M&G makes my hair look a lot lighter than the Baxters. Not sure why. But my hair is normally dark brown and my wife's is nearly black. So we look like our blonde kid might be "borrowed." The M&G seems to make the story a little more believable.

I received my Railcars today. Disappointed and impressed all at the same time. Disappointed because my pair came in well under spec in two key measurements for me, .5" over on the front rise which isn't a big deal for me at all, but dead on with the other three measurements. Disappointed because I had to wait a while to get them in the first place and they aren't going to work as they are too tight in the thigh and small in the hem.
However, I loved the fabric of this blackfxblack denim, it's exactly what I was looking for and expecting. Also, the quality of the construction is top notch. These would be freaking perfect for me if they only would have came in on spec. Back they go and I will try again.
Actual Measurements Tag Size 33 Spike Fit
Waist: Just under 17.5" Front Rise: 11" Thigh: Just under 12" Knee: 8.75" Hem: 7" Length: 35"
Railcare Fit Guide Measurements Waist: 17.5" Front Rise: 10.5" Thigh: 12.5" Knee: 8.75" Hem: 7.75" Length: 35"
Like I said, I love these jeans other than the fact that they were sewn up off spec. If they were on spec they would be perfect. I will give Railcar another shot though as I definitely see the quality in their jeans.

Bummer on measurements. Crazy variance on the cuff too, 7" is getting a little tight for my tastes, and with a wash, well, not for me.

So I contacted Railcar about the sizing issue. I sent them the measurements of my jeans and they said the thigh is on spec because the thigh is measured at the crotch not 2" down. Well, on their website it says that the crotch is measured two inches down; www.railcarfinegoods.com/category_s/1896.htmThey replied and apologized and said that is how they measure for their tapering service and they need to update their site as it is confusing. So taking that into consideration these were pretty much spot on spec except for the front rise and the cuff. So I decided I would size up and asked for another pair in a size 34 and they replied that they have none available and that Steven is at a trade show until Thursday so they wouldn't be able to start making me a new pair until then. Tawny then found me some 34s at Blue Owl to help resolved the issue. So back to Railcar they go and I picked up a pair of 34s on sale from premierstore, thanks for that heads up bentin. This definitely has not been the smoothest transaction I have had. These issues are not representative of a company that is regarded as one of the top selvedge denim makers in the game. However, their end product is definitely high quality even though the cuff measurement was pretty far off. I will also say that Tawny was very helpful and prompt in all of the emails. She did everything she could to help me out but there are some things that can be improved upon with Railcar IMO. I hope the 34's work out. They should as all the measurements look pretty good but the waist will be large for me but I can live with that and maybe shrink it up a bit with a wash.

The hem being off by .75" is a lot. That's pretty bad and would definitely put me off of their brand

The hem being off by .75" is a lot. That's pretty bad and would definitely put me off of their brand yeah it is. I almost am wondering if they sent me someone else's pair who had them tapered??? because every other measurement was dead on except for the rise which was .5" off but that's acceptable in my book. Railcar seemed pretty shocked the hem was .75" off too.

but fyi guys, Railcar thigh measurements as listed on their fit guide are measured at the crotch not two inches down from the crotch....like it says it is on the how to measure page.

So my railcars in a 34 came in from the premier store and they're keepers. Sizing up in the waist with the Spike fit is the way to go for me. The waist is big but nothing a belt can't easily fix and it's not too big that I'm cinching. So these are exactly what I was looking for, a really nice blackxblack denim fabric in a light weight. Love the fabric and the fit.
Now that I know sizing up in the Spike fit works for me I will look to pick up a pair of Indigo's from them and possibly a couple pairs of the Chinos. With the hiccup of my initial purchase from Railcar aside, I can say I'm overall very happy with them. Good quality for sure and the fit works.
So for reference if anyone is curious, I've found the following to be the same type of fit to a Gustin Slim:
-Iron Heart 777, Railcar Spikes, Oni 517

Glad it worked out. I'm finding that slim fits work well sized up one in the waist too. Do the Spikes have any more rise than G Slims?

oh and btw bentin, I'm on day 3 of using the Railcar strong hold pomade and I'm pretty happy with it so far. I have to say the smell is amazing, I love it and would almost recommend it based on that alone it's so good. Performance wise it works very good too.

DigDug I picked up the new Layrite natural matte and I really like that as well. It also has a very nice Vanilla scent and works really good if you like a medium to slightly strong hold and a matte finish

I seem to recall 1 or 2 people here complaining about how short the sleeves were and that you needed T-Rex arms for them to fit properly.

Yeah, that flannel was a mess. Their workshirts are truly ugly too, even if they're seen up better. Jeans people, stick with what you're good at.

Question on Railcar's denim services (and in the interest of suppressing the other topic that showed up this morning) - has anyone done their tapering service? How is it? I've got a pair or two that I'm considering sending off - is it worth the value? Should I inquire if Manny would be willing to do this instead?
