Is it me, or has the forum been slow the past few days? Meaning...not many posts? I posted some stats over here selvedgestyle.com/post/69662We have talked about a Random Thread such as this Slowwww Thread is turning out to be. We have talked about it before but we were worried some good info about topics we have categorized in other threads would get buried in Random. Did we want to have a Random Thread like this one? Maybe we can create a poll. If we do decide to have one we should be mindful to keep it random and any good info find the appropriate Thread. They won't happen if you overthink it too much and unrandomize random happenings. |

Im glad Im in security right now, it grows four times as fast as the other major areas with comuntication being virtually flat. Old26 arent you working with as a service- stuff? I thought that was still hot....everyone going to the cloud or hybrid? One thing is clear tho, the rate things move, no one of us is equiped with what we need for the future, i think the most important skill is to be able to adapt change very fast....or were out. Problem is yes, I'm employed, but we get nil training. Things change, but with what time do I find to learn more while keeping sane? Security is good as it's behind the scenes and growing in importance - you're good. Me, we'll see. Lots of our stuff is being shoveled to India and Costa Rica. Sucks. I dont get real training either but have an advantage in that i build cases and solutions with customers so if something is needed that u need to learn i can in a way learn by doing since Im not payed nor charge by the hour, but its still a race sometimes since it cant take obvoius long extratime. We can ask for training if its inline with the business politics of what producer it is like Cisco or Ibm is easy, While Rsa for instance is getting harder, however ive only gotten this a handful of times over three years so yeah learn While doing. Our consultants mainly want to fokus on the stuff most customer has and that needs tuning and configs regularly, or they wont have enought hours to charge....its a marathon While balancing swords over baloons for sure. Isnt it possible for you to try and reach for more of an architect-position? I find myself often as a securiry architect more then anything and the Basic foundation is still almost the same as it were three years ago, its just details that have changed....the wave of ransomeware still came mostly from email-attachements so Block it going out, have backup and consider not allowing zip-file attachements for the workers.....whats changed is its more targeted, the tools to stop it has other names and perhaps the mailserver is in Azure so thats just an overlevel of info i need to know about. We also loose some to India and it sucks but right now those cases werent the money anyway since its so squeezed for margin. |
