Plus some of us don't like......classic?.....generous?......cuts for our chinos. Very generous. Tried the M2. It was like wearing clown pants. MC Hammer 2.0, but in chinos. I have tried the M3, their "slim" fit, on before and even THAT is wider/more generous than the "standard fit" from many companies.

They do have two or three pairs of M4 available, which are almost slim.

I have concluded that Bill's isn't for me, and that they are made for big boys and people that want a retro/Ward Cleaver look.

I don't know, y'all are nuts. Bills Khakis has been blowing out their khakis. 75% off clearance. I have cleaned up on BK. I've always loved their khakis. Now I have a lifetime supply. Just so I don't get too fat.

I have concluded that Bill's isn't for me, and that they are made for big boys and people that want a retro/Ward Cleaver look. I find the M3 to be a great fit, slim but not skinny or tapered. Their pants will far outlive the current trends. I've never owned the M1, they are too baggy for my body type.

Yeah, it's probably my body type. But also I'm averse to paddle legs and large hems. Personal pref.

Don't be so hard on the beaver. I'm always hard on the beaver. Looks like Wally is getting a stern lesson about the realities of buttoning the top (collar) button. "Golly, Pa. I thought I could pull the look off !"

I am back to very much liking my M2 , cuffed. I wanted to try the M1 but they didn't have the color I wanted on clearance. Yes, m2 especially in warmer weather. Any of the crisper fabrics cuffed and pressed. Classic look. Get any BK that you want now. May not be back. OT but I got a pair of Rancourt made peanut rough out chukkas from them for $100. Score!

I'm happy with my Bills M3 Sumer weight (like, super light weight...3-4oz?), and when they go on super sale, the M2 can work out with some tailoring to still be affordable.
Anyone else wear Jack Donnelly? I have two pair of the hybrid fit and I definitely like the cut and solid material.
Keep in mind i like straight leg denim, and I don't wear them short. So if you need tapered and ankles on display, then maybe these aren't for you. (JD does have a slim fit, too...the hybrid is in between, and of course you can hem to your heart's desire.)

Fully recommend the canvas material. Love everything about it. Whats the canvas material? I have 3 bills: Original twill (button fly) - Love this one. Chamois cloth I think? (it's really thin/soft) Corduroy

I have two pair of donegal on the way.

To me, Chinos are all about fit. I know many who are denim heads become obsessed with fabrics, but for Chinos, get the fit right first. See what works for your body/leg type. Remember, unlike jeans, chinos will not really fit to your body over time in the same way as jeans, so getting the fit right immediately is important.
I know it's been said that a good tailor can get you a perfect fit, but I honestly find this very difficult with Chinos. I find Chinos more resistant to a lot of tailoring than dress pants, for some reason. Tailored, they come out just slightly off for me, go figure.
Also, for me, Chinos should always be able to be worn well with a sport coat. So I avoid cuts and fabrics that are too thick and "rugged." For me those are a different category of pant.
Some of my notes on Brands:
Gustin: Sturdy, but too baggy for my tastes.
Dockers: the D1's are ok, though I find the leg openings still to wide. Alpha are a bit stiff of a pant. Cheap, though.
Bonobos: The material is a bit thin, but the fit is pretty decent, though I recommend hemming these as high as you can stand because they don't drape well when they sit on your shoes. Plus, a variety of colors and good sales.
Brooks Brothers Milanos: Good drape, but dressier with their creases. Actually much more of a beater than I first gave them credit for. I once wore a pair for years, washing and tumble drying.
Brooks Brothers Slim Fit Red Fleece (stretch): My personal favorite chinos because they come in a variety of colors/sizes, and are very slim fit, draping well with my skinny legs. You can also get them for cheap during sales. They are not, however, as sturdy and long lasting, probably due to the stretch, but I am willing to make that trade off. I have about 8 pairs.
Incotex: Oh boy. Ok here's the thing. They are inconsistent. There are so many different materials that it's difficult to judge online what you are getting. However, the best pair of Chinos I ever owned were the Incotex Stretch Chino pants (I think some stores called them the "Solara" line.) These pants were pure magic: comfortable, draped well, perfect fit, and sturdy as hell. I wore the hell out of these pants for years before they started falling apart. But guess, what, poof! I can't find them anywhere.
Bill's Khakis: As said before, they are way too baggy.
epaulet: Great materials, great drape, but difficult to find certain sizes, and I think the price point is a little too high considering the other options.
I don't like going any higher than these brands in terms of price points. All I wear are chinos so I beat the hell out of them. I've tried on more expensive brands, and they don't seem anything special to me. I know not all of these brands are board favorites, but that's my insight.

Nice post. I mostly have JC**W and older BR***lic chinos but am looking to branch out. It's funny how you talk about fit as I have one pair that I like very much, a slightly fuller JC**W pair that looks slightly casual and is a great non dress pair. Everything is good about it except the edges of the front pockets, when your looking directly at the front of them, flare out and drive me nuts.
I look at the G chinos and I do not like how they drape at all. I want my chinos to be comfortable, not rugged work wear because I'm wearing them to the office, not out to the field baling hay.

Those front pockets flaring are a fit issue, and a perfect example of the difficulty of finding the perfect chino for your body type. This is why I sacrifice fabric for fit on chinos. I believe that the flare usually means the pants are too tight just below the waist, which I think is impossible to tailor without throwing the whole pant off. But in the big scheme of things that flare isn't a killer.

I believe Oconnels and Orvis has nice chinos/khakis too, but I'm sure it's more trad than what people here seem to like.
