devastitis I'm enjoying them quite a bit. The leather is pretty much carefree. Just a damp cloth and brush to get them back into shape. They are a tad big and have to wear some thick socks, but not a big deal. The only thing that bugs me is the tongue on the left boot seems to be stitched a little off center. I went half size down, and then had to return them for a full size down from brannock, and they're perfect. I love the low maintenance aspect of the chamois leather, wipe it down and then shoe tree them. I'm still kinda wishing I went with the Context Clothing version, but if I grab the Truman boots in Navy Chamois, that'll make up for sticking with the Indys because then I'll have to chamois boots that aren't similar. Definitely like commando more than the plantation crepe though.

devastitis I'm in between the 9.5 and 10 so it was a toss up as to which way to go. Love the leather though and I will probably end up with the commando sole on all my boots as they come up for resoling.

I probably mentioned on here 100 times how dumb I think Red Wing is with the Iron Rangers being stock flat leather sole and them not offering the customer the option via. a custom program. The Vibram 430 has worked well for me and is a bit easier to get all the snow, debris, mud, etc. out of than the full commando.

The only example I've seen was a JCREW one off.

Question for y'all. Where do you like your toe to sit in the boot? 1/2 inch from the front? 1 inch? 1/4 inch? I think it depends on the toe design. I just like it to feel good. Not too tight or loose. I would guess my boots shoes are all about 1/2"

The Iron Ranger is a cork/rubber sole but is flat as mentioned. Slippery especially on ice. The Beckmans are still a little slippery on ice. I was going to mention the J. Crew Redwing Iron Ranger also. You could try Ebay. Sometimes you can find new or like new of discontinued items.

I think I've probably posted just as many times that the iron ranger doesn't have a flat leather sole (wolvie 1ks do). It IS flat, but it's nitrile cork, and they have made commando variants. All that said, I'd wear mine more if they had tread on the sole.

My reasoning for having a lot of boots and shoes, flat for warm weather, lug for cold, snow, ice.

This and this from Brooks Brothers northcoast . All BB footwear, including these IRs, were on sale for 40% off a week after Black Friday.

Red Wing US now offers the Iron Ranger 8119. Nice. Thats a start, one color. I'd like to see Redwing offer some width options as well on their Heritage collection.

Funny thing is those are what $100 more and I think that's about the price you can send them back to Redwing to have another sole put on them. I'm not a fan of speedhooks for non work boots so I prefer the brown version. As to the black, I think they should have used tonal stitching throughout, not just on the toe cap. That would be really sweet and make polishing them a breeze. Man, that would have been an instacop at 40% off.

Being I have a low volume foot, I've always worn a D width so I've never paid attention. It seems some styles, like the 8111, are available in a EE width while others (including the 8119) are not. Odd. You can always get which ever color you want and have it resoled, but I can see why you wouldn't want to do that. You can always get the ol' 1907...I love mine and wear them fine in the snow. Not much love here for the "contractor" type boot though lol.

I kinda like the contrast thread, as it kinda pops (I'm not a huge fan of jet black anything).

I used to wear basically this style, looked slightly different though. www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing-shoe/952-red-wing-shoes/952-red-wing-mens-6-inch-boot-brown

I want to like the green, just not sure. I think it needs to be a little more subtle for my liking. As is, this type of boot makes me think of a swanky Dr Marten. This particular one is an End collab IIRC. I would love to have this one, but in cipresso shell instead of the calf. They tend to make a lot of stuff for the "i must have stows in every color of the rainbow" crowd, which I have found actually exists on SF. The cloth pull tabs are NBD. They are made out of what seems to be a super-strong herringbone woven linen material. I agree that they would be better if they were made of leather, but they've been using the cloth tabs for a long time. If any of mine ever break, I will break out my awl and replace them with leather tabs. FTR, the leather Trickers uses is way beyond the plasticky stuff that even the UK made DMs use.

Not a fan of the brass buckles. Kinda looks tacky to me. Silver would have seemed more refined imo.

Going back to the Doc Martens debate, I've had quite a few pairs over the decades and a few years ago both the Far East and UK vintage versions. Neither is great, IMHO, and the vintage were a major disappointment. The leather was a bit thicker, not much, and maybe less plasticky and shiney, but they seemed to be slightly smaller and were really painful for a long time.
I'd never buy DMs again and feel that the RW IRs are a much better alternative, or definitely William Lennon from the UK, whose boots make DMs look like baby's slippers. I have the IRs pictured above with the #430 sole and much prefer that to the cork. Hopefully they'll expand that range.
As for the Tricker's comparison, they're in a different league entirely. Much better materials, much more refined and better resoling options, but they're about 3 times the price. I'm very much a Stow fan, although I sold my green ones just last week.
