And yet you were trying to sell them to me! (looks furiously for the downvote) Well thanks for the warning, much appreciated. I have never owned a pair of AE's, Im just in need of some better black wingtips and would love a casual short wing but these AE's are a bit to dressy for what I'm looking for. PSA: Wingtip Oxford (short): Cap-toe Oxford: Brogue Cap-toe Oxford:

I really wish I could find some rational reason that I don't like anything Rancourt does.

Yeah, I realize I promptly recommended a brogued captoe when he asked for a shortwing.

My jeans won't fade, my feet hurt, it's hot enough in February to make me want to shave... But my kid's cute as shit and learning to walk, my wife's pretty cool, my new Red Wings are broken in and amazingly comfy and I've got some anniversary jeans coming that should crock up some more stuff. Time to order a natural Tanner wallet. My Kendal Hyde cap-toes are starting to feel broken in, unfortunately that also means a crease on the cap just past the seam on the right boot. They're pretty comfortable, though.

Yeah, I guess I just glossed over those all my time spent looking at Rancourt stuff. From the pictures, the olives look like the best color IMO. I do not like that shade of brown and the blacks appear lackluster. Still, $400 opens up a ton of options. The biggest upside to me on those is I can get them to width, and they are US made. I would prefer the rubber went the whole way across the bottom of the shoe and it does seem odd that there are no other sole options offered. Again, at that pricepoint I'd be more compelled if I could get a full rubber bottom with some lugs.

I dont know, maybe I'm too hard on my shoes, but both of my pairs of Rancourt are/were meh. Loafers i ripped through, Rancourt couldn't fix (though they offered me 25%off on future orders)
the chukka boots stretched out too much and I don't wear them either.

Price is more than a little absurd for a non bespoke shoe, especially for being part moo.

Price is more than a little absurd for a non bespoke shoe, especially for being part moo. Full shell doesn't always equate to a better shoe/boot. EG craftsmanship and design on this is ridiculously on point. You'd have to be nuts not to be able to appreciate how clean this is.

and the description says "..with buttery soft Delapre..." Wonder if Gustin outsourced them?
Oh - I thought the full price was $1237 which is very good for that. But that's half down for the deposit. $2475 does seem a little high even for Edward Green's.

It's clean, but I'd appreciate it more as a shoe, without the bizarro two types of leather. And I'm not sure that anyone is questioning Greens abilities. Horse is more than moo when it's the same build.

I wonder if this is why Skoaktiebolaget dropped EG's shoes...because their cost has risen quite a bit in the last couple of years. If memory serves me correctly you used to be able to buy EG for around $1000 or a little less. Now they seem to be hovering around St.Crispin territory (whom have better looking shoes imo).

I think these look pretty snazzy as well.

Viberg is dropping the Natural Waxed Flesh Service Boot this week. I think these may be my first foray into Viberg. They look rugged and incredible. They will be offered on the 1035 last.

I jumped on a pair and wasn't very happy with the fit/weight on them and am stuck with them now even though I followed all sizing advice. Also, for the money, the build quality wasn't comparable to Alden which is surprising since Alden shoes usually have their own share of issues.

What size brannock are you, what size/last did you go with in Viberg? I was told to go a full size down in 1035, and half to a full size down in the 2030.

I won't say ugly, but to me, it's something that a cat who normally wears boots says he needs when he's wearing a suit or a tux and can't handle shoes. Makes no sense to me either, but there's plenty that do and undoubtedly plenty that love these...

I thought they were too expensive at $1,237.50, then I realized that was just the 50% deposit . . .

I thought they were too expensive at $1,237.50, then I realized that was just the 50% deposit . . . EGs are definitely a pricier brand. $1200~1500 is their normal all calfskin leather shoe price. Being 3x as expensive as Alden shell boots, which for a lot of us would be the most we would spend on a boot, will make this seem like a completely outrageous price..
