I'm pretty sure @untucked has some rancourts. He'll probably bounce in here and give you his opinion.

My understanding is that they are excellent quality, although I do not own a pair. There is a styleforum thread that has a lot of feedback.

I only wish they had a grey hard leather.

Thanks for sharing the link - I'm liking the dark olive chromexcel, unique coloring- these would look good with some of my denim.

No experience with their shoes but I do own their brown CXL belt. It matches my Indy boots perfectly and is my favorite casual belt

These are great. I want to one up them and get this made in un-dyed shell. I would get that overthe black shell I've been planning for

Btw, I have a pair of their Blake boots, and they have a far more sexy silhouette in person

@untucked and other members with boot experience, I'm looking to get a pair of black CXL boots and have it narrowed down to Wolverine 1K Courtland, Alden Indy, Oak Street Black Dainite Trench, and Custom Rancourts www.rancourtandcompany.com/custom-made-shoes/?x=RnqyOvXl9ItJJzQ I think I'm comfortable with the price of any of them, so which is the best bang for the buck? I've got brown Courtlands and Black Cherry Beckmans. Beside a pair of black CXL boots, I'm also hoping to pick up a pair of natural CXL. That should give me a good color range and style range.

I was going to suggest the Indy boot since it's such a classic and iconic boot, but since the Courtland is a similar style you might want something else. How about the Chippewa Service boot?

I only have experience with 1K and OSB on your list. If price is within $150, I would go for the OSB. In my opinion, constrution and overall materials use on the OSB are a class above than the 1k. I also feel since you already have a pair of 1k in different color, you may like a different style with a flater toe box. Btw, I have a much harder time to wear black boots than other colors, especially in more casual style. If it is me, I may get thw natural before the black. More versatile.

gaseousclay and @wils Thanks. I might wear them with a suit or slacks in the winter, so I was thinking black since I don't have rubber soled black winter shoe. I do see your point on natural having more pairing options. A drawback of OSB, Chippewa, and Rancourt is the lack of speed hooks. I kind of like speed hooks, but it's not a deal break. One thing I've noticed with my Courtlands is that the sole on the toe is too thin. When I walk on wet sidewalks water flicks up onto the leather and pools along the welt. This doesn't happen on the Beckmans, which have a double leather stack before the rubber sole. So that is another reason to think about another boot with a thicker sole at the toe. (The Courtlands are worrying me because they have a little salt line along the toe after every wear in this winter weather and I don't think you're supposed to condition after every wear.)

If you are thinking about wearing suit with the boot, I am not sure about the OSB. What do you think about the Trickers? Indy probably is a good fit too.

The only boots I wear with suits or jackets are Western. And usually, black. There's something about them that works in that realm. I've got a closet full of footwear, but Westerns are the only ones that get to go out with a suit - and of course they need to be polished up like a mofo.

@wils I just don't see any Tricker's that look appealing.

Well, I think you have swayed me on the black and so I'll probably get It looks like I may have to MTO them or wait until Leffot gets in a 10 D (need to double check sizing at a local Alden seller).

jbreitenbucher not sure if leffot will get those in unless they get a return. they had those made up for a specific batch. the pre-sale ran for quite some time and i think were just recently delivered to customers a few weeks ago. any sizes that they have listed now are likely from cancellations or returns. i'm also hoping for a seller to have a pair of natural cxl with commando sole pop up.
