I was a bit hesitant for the exact same reason but decent price made me pull the trigger. I'm planning to walk and hike a lot in them, those soles should be worn out in no time.

Love the uppers, can't convince myself about the soles. Great deal though, thanks! I'm the only one who likes the Trooper soles???

Man I really like their penny loafers. Last thing I need is more clothing but they are sweet.
Plus I don't have any penny loafers.

Anyone own the rancourt gilman camp moc? Looking for size advice I don't, but if I'm not mistaken, they will send you a pair (or maybe just a single shoe) to try on

I looked into it but it's like $50 for two test pairs to be send. Then they give you a $50 credit for custom pairs but not made to order. Screw that!

Well, I can't comment on the pair you mentioned, but my 2 pairs have come in true to size. I'm a brannock device 9.5D, and that's what I ordered. Fit is spot-on

Can't justify the extra money for the camp moc over a sperry boat shoe. I do want the beefroll loafers with crepe sole. That to me is worth the money.

Does anyone here have a well-worn-in pair of Rancourts? On every one of their shoe designs (to my eye) it takes a weird angle transitioning from the toe box to the tongue/upper/lace area and the whole thing looks very triangular. I'm wondering if it stays that way after they break in or if that's just what they do new, and I'm not really finding a well-worn profile shot in my searching. The two shots I've been able to really find seem to show this weird bunching around this area, so I'm curious if that's an affect of the design. Triangle (It's actually amplified on the chukka which is not pictured here): Bunchiness:

Rancourt made a collab boot with Huckberry, and it looks pretty damn nice imo. Better than the Iron Rangers, and with the code Dappered20, it drops closer to $300. Thoughts?

I love my 2 pairs of Rancourt boots. I think they are great boots. I don't have any RW's to compare to them to though

I like them, they're a bit taller than an Iron Ranger, but still have speed hooks (I really like speed hooks, though I guess they can cause problems if you cuff above them). Being Rancourt they're going to be Blake stitched as opposed to Goodyear welted, for what that's worth. I can't comment too much on the sole, except that it looks like it's likely to be much more grippy for rough terrain than the non-lug Iron Ranger. It looks like the Doc Marten's rubber I used to know (wore the English ones in the 90s, haven't bought a pair since), which was awesome almost all of the time but once the temperature dropped below freezing they would turn into hard plastic. My only other thought is that the toe might taper a bit too much, which you might like if you think Iron Rangers look like clown shoes. I'm sure it's fine, but in this shot, the left one looks fine and the right one looks like it has a weird taper, so I think a lot of it might just be shooting angle -- they look perfectly fine and normal from the front.

Rancourt uses Blake/Rapid construction rather than Blake construction. So the leather mid-sole is stitched to the insole with a Blake stitch, but the outsole (in this case the RLH) is stitched to the midsole with a Rapid stitch. Therefore, any cobbler can do resoling work because they only need to take the outsole off and stitch a new one on. Also, the concerns about Blake construction wicking moisture into the insole don't exist unless the midsole gets saturated.

You can see the Rapid stitch thru the sole on the RLH on this picture from Huckberry:

I've looked at these a bunch of times as well. They look great but the price is killer even for made on the 🇺🇸

Making a pair or having a pair made? I'm pretty sure he's making his own pair. He posted his first attempt a while ago. Keep us updated.

Making a pair or having a pair made? Making. I have some 9 oz horween natural essex, but I'm making a "high top". The design is based on these. I'll probably try a low next.
