I was going through some videos of my Father-In-Law, Tony Terran. He was part of the Wrecking Crew and played on everything from I love Lucy to The Beatles to Herb Alpert. Guy was amazing - still around, but not playing much these days. Good stuff on here. My son also sends me new things to check out and there's still good music, just need a bigger funnel to catch it all. Holy crap. The Wrecking Crew. I have the book sitting in my bedroom waiting to be read. I am sure he has many great stories. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall through all those recording sessions. Do you know what Beatles song or songs he played on?

Here's some of the stuff on his wiki page. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_TerranWe have been trying to compile the list - as you can imagine, being from an era before internet and other modern records-keeping methods, some stuff is hard to dig up. He played on a few songs on Revolver for one - just listen for trumpets in "Got To Get You Into My Life" for one. I knew you and David would appreciate this which is why I posted it up.

Listening to Layla, and other assorted love songs this morning. IMO, this was Clapton's best playing, as I think he was being pushed a bit playing along side young Duane. Also, you old farts that know who the late great Johnny Winter is, check out his new release that he recorded just prior to his death. Features guys like Clapton, Bonamassa, Joe Perry, Leslie West, Billy Gibbons, and Brian Setzer. Good stuff. Oh yea, its titled Step Back.

If you checked out my link above of Imelda May and liked it, or if you a fan of rockabilly, Jeff Beck or Les Paul and Mary Ford and have about 87 mins to spare, you might want to check this out. It's a live show, not a concert, of Jeff Beck and Imelda in a tribute to Les Paul. About 40 min in they bring out the horns and do a kick ass theme from Peter Gunn...Guest appearances by Gary U.S. Bonds and Brian Setzer...Great stuff Jeff and Imelda

Volumn pegged, and listening to Live Cream Vol.2 in memory of one of the greatest front men, and bass players who passed away on Saturday. RIP Jack Bruce. One of my abiding memories of music from childhood was the first time my dad put on the second record of Wheels of Fire, the one with the four live tracks recorded at Winterland (the venue, not our admin) and The Fillmore. At the time, the thing that blew my mind first and foremost was Ginger Baker's tour de force on "Toad". Then as I got a little older and started playing music myself in my early teens, I discovered there were two more things about that record that blew me away (and still do): Jack Bruce's basslines on "Crossroads", especially during Clapton's solos, and the incredible stamina Bruce must have had to get through a live performance of "Traintime" between both singing and playing harmonica at that level of intensity for seven minutes.

Just got back from a show, the first one for a good friends new band. Paul Allender, formerly of Cradle of Filth, started White Empress. They sounded great. The singer is amazing. She sings very heavy and then also sings very melodic. If you like real real heavy then you should like it. Almost to much for me. I can only take a little at a time then I need a break. I have a crush on the bass player. Chela Rhea formerly in Coal Chamber. She's a cutie. This is the first video they have made.

Good to see some heavier stuff represented. Can't say I'm really into that 'operatic' style metal, but the band above seem to do it as well as any.
A band I've absolutely loved since the late 80s has recently had a bit of a return to form, with their last couple of albums. Fair enough, they always basically sound the same and haven't really changed their approach since the 90s, but they're still in a league of one - nobody has ever sounded like them. Like so many of the best metal bands, they have a real groove to their sound.

A friend and I have just been having an 80s/90s metal You Tube link exchange. Makes me really miss the old days. Don't even care how ludicrous it now looks, stuff like this was the soundtrack of my younger years and it's still great today:

I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1991, here in Milwaukee. It was one of 3 shows they recorded the Operation Livecrime video. 13th row center seats made for great viewing. How was the recent show? Personally, I don't believe I would enjoy them any longer, without Geoff. He's the reason I was drawn to them, in the first place.

I wrote a review of the show and more over here. Huge fan of Geoff also. Some bands have been able to switch singers and still be as good as they were. The sound will sometimes change but that is to be expected. As you will read and hear in the review, the sound of the new singer Todd la Torre is amazing. Videos from the actual show. gustinfriends.proboards.com/thread/43/music
