How do you know what taper to ask for, when getting them hemmed? Take in your favorite pair and tell them you want that taper down to that particular cut opening. Or if you like the Gustin slim, for instance, use the thigh, knee, and hem measures from their fit chart and give those to them and say that's how you want them tapered at "X" inseam length. That's part of my problem. I have yet to get any of the Gustin jeans hemmed yet. Before getting into raws I had pretty baggy jeans. This is the look I'm going for, although I'd want them a an inch or two longer: http://instagram.com/p/6Q3XakM4xu

bozer - I'd think your best bet is to take that picture and your jeans to one of the nicer jeans places, I'd say blue owl from most reports (and I haven't heard of them trying to size people down three to four like some others) though I don't know how they are about stuff they didn't sell. If they do alterations, they'll be able to get the appropriate measurements when you're there. That's likely a 7.25-7.5" hem, but your mileage may vary based on what your actual measurements are. Being in nyc I think our best bet is to head in to one of these reputable jeans places and ask for help since you don't want some angry lady to ruin your jeans because she doesn't care what you want and makes assumptions.

That's the plan. I may go to Denim Therapy or Self Edge. Just feel like a dork doing it, but needs to be done.
