I'm just going to assume my 40's are coming in at 37-38. In which case, they go up here for sale. I'm already assuming the thighs on my straight fit are coming in at skinny spec. In which case, I need to find a fat guy who likes the sausage leg look before that trend fazes out. or you guys could just return them for full refund.

I came up with the idea of exchanging/buying 21s off of each other, and then I completely forget and say this. Dibs on 36/37 Slims sewn like a 35 Slim!

So are we just assuming the heavy weight denim (21oz) are just going to sew up small?
I for one am 6 for 6 on Gusitn jeans and chinos sewing up on spec. This is my first heavy weight order.

My theory is that the smaller sizes tend to be pretty close, but as the size increases, the likelihood of being out of spec does also. There are lots of complaints on 36 and above, I've had great luck with 33 and 34, and I don't know if I've ever heard of the 29-32 crowd having much trouble. Also, this particular issue seems to be independent of the denim weight, though the general advice is to size up for heavier denim to account for the increased fabric thickness that reduces the inside diameter of the waistband.

When it comes to G sizing don't assume anything!
I sized up for my super heavies 18oz to 37slim And they came in larger than spec.
Cone blueXBlack which is like 11oz came in two sizes too small.
Too many variables to take into account. Reminds me of the old saying "don't buy a car built on Friday" oh grandpa.

Which is funny because my coalxblacks at 16oz sewed up the best of my 5 pairs. as they say, ymmv but I cant screw around with any of these loomstates because Im a 38 and there is not option for 2 sizes up.

Interesting, I have read this forum for a long time now and hear all about the G QC issues. I can't exactly tell if I am getting lucky with sizing (32 slim) or the sample size on this forum is small and every QC issue is discussed. I ordered my normal size for the 21s and I am assuming they will sew up correctly. I guess we will see, speaking of, has anyone actually received a shipping notice on the 21s or just production updates that say they are shipping soon?

The last three updates have said shipping soon and through the end of the month, starting around the beginning of the month/end of December. There are about 5 or so people here waiting for them, I don't think anyone has received yet.

Have you measured the Gustin products you have and compared those measurements to what the fit guide says? I didn't notice my stuff was coming in out of spec until I started doing that. You could just have a 100% success rate so far though, and good for you if that's the case.

There has been some variation in each pair, on both the high and low side but within spec every time. Maybe I am just getting lucky, but so far I have not moved on from Gustin. I still find value in their jeans and chinos.

I've said this before but I've had good luck with the fit of all my G denim, even the Frankenstein American Standards I bought off Grailed. My Japan One Sevens, Blue 17's and Cone Superlights, for the most part, came within spec. The waist on those all came to 34", so .5" under spec. But weight loss has made these jeans fit perfectly. My American Standards are the only pair that came out exactly at spec in the waist. YMMV

Hoping to get the delivery email update on the Japan 21s Yeah, me too. They have all week to make it on time. Seems like maybe this one is going to run long, like most of the heavy stuff does.

YMMV 1/2" is really too far of a variance. 1/8-1/4" okay, but 1/2" is usually outside of tolerable variance for a lot of manufacturers. I can see that happening once in awhile, but for you to say that most of your jeans have been 1/2" under isn't great. I have lots of Ciano stuff and all of his measurements are always within 1/8". Even the samples he has sent me. My Iron Heart stuff is mostly to spec. My TS stuff has always been to spec.

Even the samples he has sent me. My Iron Heart stuff is mostly to spec. My TS stuff has always been to spec. In my case that .5" variance works to my advantage since I lost weight. I also figured that the .5" variance will largely depend on what you're comfortable with concerning fit. It's been widely accepted that having a tight fitting waist band is preferable since it'll stretch out with wear. My 3sixteen st-100x have a waist spec of 34" for a size 33, but mine came in at 33.5" which is pretty tight. It's not a big deal because they'll stretch. As for other companies that come into spec, Ciano is, for all intents and purposes, a made to measure denim manufacturer, so his sizing allowances are going to be better than most. But his turnaround times are also very long. IH has all around good QC, as they should for a premium denim brand. TS may have worked for you on your purchases but I know there are customers who have had plenty of fit issues, especially with their shirts. TS isn't going to be perfect but I agree that their QC will be miles better than G.

It's nice that you're extremely happy with CF's stuff, but for most, a 4 - 6 time frame isn't going to cut it. Even IH was an inch under spec for some of their denims, but as long as you know that ahead of time, it's not awful. Also, because of the somewhat stretchiness of denim, half an inch under spec isn't bad either. You'll have a few months to stretch them out to your perfect fitting waist, and still have time left over before receiving something from CF. Also, I think this "having your own specs made" is a little overrated. I go up and down 15 pounds every year, and my waist size goes up or down a size to a size and a half. I'll be just fine finding an appropriate fit from the fit guide using the specs I am at at the time.

An item here or there is not terrible, but for nearly every item he has to come in 1/2" under spec is unacceptable to me. Obviously there will be mistakes made and the occasional item will slip through. I also get that the long wait times for Ciano scare some people off. All I can say is that all of the items I have from him are simply incredibly. You can get jeans for the same price as G, with a slightly longer wait time, better QC, lifetime repair, and amazing service. The guy works 7 days a week, puts out an incredible product, and has been excellent to work with. He has taken so much feedback from this board, and truly cares about his product.

Because of my weight training cycles I will also fluctuate 10-15 pounds up and down every year and I think a lot of people who don't even weight train will fluctuate as well. It's just not worth a 3 month plus wait time just to have custom specs in what are pretty basic fabrics for the most part. Although to Ciano's credit he is venturing out and acquiring more rare and desirable fabrics. I figured this out with good ol Lawless Denim. In principal I thought it sounded really cool to have my own specs but in reality it just kind of drove me crazy as I changed the measurements on my orders several times because of my fluctuating weight.
