Double India pale ale at 11:30 in the morning probably is not helping. But it's my birthday, I'm on vacation. Kids are in the pool and I'm off to Hawaii on Friday. I guess operation fit in my jeans can start in a couple weeks

Yeah, routing is easier when you're younger - it's just a fact. And maybe when I'm effin' retired, but that's a ways out. I've always been in good shape, with the occasional winter gain. Clothes fit and look better - 100% when you're in shape. I'm not making excuses, but I've got reasons that I don't have the luxury of time right now. I know I'll get back in the swing once my wife gets back into town - a month on location means I do everything here and that includes a lot, not to mention my 10-12 hour day job. Hoping before it gets cooler to have myself back into something. I also have a nice collection of jacked up injuries from skiing, motorcycle riding, and boxing from my earlier years. It don't get easier ladies!

Great discussion. I worked out today after my 2 year physical. Everything checked out great will have other test results soon. Exercise and eating right is the best thing you can do for your body. Great stress reliever also. I have found like probably many of the members here who get obsessed with denim and clothes, that if you start a routine and eating right you can get obsessive about that also. A good habit to have. Of course you need to eat correctly to lose weight but you throw in the working out gain more muscle and you can sometimes actually eat more. Especially if you're eating nutritious foods. Which you should be doing. I cut back on the beer. I found I like Amstel Light. A good tasting light beer. They say to limit to 2 drinks a day. Beer wine or mixed/straight drink. Good info on the this thread on the forum. These posts probably should go there. selvedgestyle.com/thread/307/workout-supplement-meal-plan

I'm with ickes on this one.. diet and exercise. I enjoy a drink or two and horrible food when the urge strikes, but I kill it in the gym every weekday, so feel I can indulge in a few luxuries every once in awhile. By sizing up, I feel you're settling a bit with your self image. If you're totally cool with yourself as you are now and enjoy your life without thinking you should probably hit the gym a bit more frequently, carry on.. if you find yourself thinking maybe you should go for a run or two, don't make it easy to stay where you are by accommodating you as you are and not you as you want to be. Oof, I wish every day. But a 5 year old and a busy as f!@k career have said otherwise. I try running and swimming as often as time allows, and have the diet clamped down to a bare minimum of caloric intake, but if I exercised every day (let alone went to the gym every day), I think I'd have a revolt on my hands. Good on ya for finding the time. I wake up at 5:15 or so every week day to get it done and take the first bus to the gym to get my workout in from 6-7 (Singapore).. it's the only time I have in the day since I've got a 3 and 5 year old and a pretty crazy work schedule, as well! Try it, man.. you'll like it =)

Another reason why I'm not having kids! Time!
28 days is what is generally held as the time period to break an addiction or kick a habit, change etc.
Finally over my elbow injury getting back lifting tomorrow.

Diet doesn't take much extra time beside thinking more about your meals. A run just 10-15min could help.

Just watch the calories using an app like MyFitnessNow. It's tough but you can get used to it. I was eating 1300 calories a day only and lost 25 pounds about 2 years ago. Now I just put on almost 10 pounds over the summer but I'm about to go back to that 1300 a day, with one day a week of eating garbage.

Rapid fat loss for a few weeks, before transitioning to a steady diet plan? 1300 calories is very low, unless you weigh like a 120 lbs lean.

Doing the 1300 a day thing really worked for me with zero exercise.. Then I'd eat like total shit on the weekend.

Cheat days are a joke and don't help. 1300 isn't sustainable for anyone besides a 99lbs 13 year old girl.

It's not sustainable for the long term, but sustainable for a few weeks at a time, as long as you're pretty sedentary, lifting weights at most twice a week, but there's little room for error. You have to hit your macros/fiber requirements/vitamin & minerals in two maybe three meals. Tough, but not impossible, as long as the macro that's being sacrificed is carbs (basically only veggies and high fiber carbs). 150 grams of protein = 600 cals. Rest has to be mostly fats, so 50~60 grams of fats, and the rest carbs. Like one Five Guys burger and two protein shakes/bars (for fiber). It's doable, I've done it, but it's certainly not easy. If you don't hit your macros/etc, your body will fall apart.

Maybe I'm different, but it really worked for me. I went off the grid over the summer with ALOT of travelling with lots of beer and gained about 8 pounds, but I can lose that in probably 2-3 weeks just by going back to the 1300 calorie diet. Then if I just eat light for lunch and not be a pig at dinner, I can maintain at 170 which is my ideal weight. I'm sure this won't work for everyone but it works for me. Now if I could get in the gym or even just jog, then I'd be able to eat whatever I wanted I bet. I got a pretty damn good metabolism I guess. I started on this type of diet over 2 years ago and just adding the calories to that app really helped me. EDIT: Forgot to add, I would drink this stuff mixed with water every morning. I think it helps you shit out the bad stuff each day. Plus I'd take vitamins. www.amazon.com/Yerba-Prima-Psyllium-Whole-Cleanse/dp/B005ZEZGS2/ref=sr_1_6?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1442106118&sr=1-6&keywords=psyllium+husk

Which is good alternative if you are on a low carb diet. It doesn't help poop out the bad stuff, but just poop anything out. High protein/fat diet will jam up the insides, and without fiber, you won't poop for days.
