The TSA thing is no joke. I have one of those pre-check things and I usually fly through the BS. When I went to PA this spring, I got busted due to the RRL's having the steel shank. Pissed me off, but beware, those can make your travels a PITA...will get the pics tomorrow.

Well showing my gf the Gustin boots at the bar. General thoughts....very feminine dandy boots. Toe box is generally to blame. But they look like woman's boots. This is silly. Can you find an example of a woman's boot that looks like this (that doesn't look masculine)? It looks an awful lot like an Alden plain toe, close to the viberg service boot and similar to the wwii military boot that it's based on. A women's boot tends to have a more tapered toe, and tends to look masculine if it has a round toe. These are different from a workboot, but they're supposed to be. I'm glad they didn't make another bulb-toed workboot like Chippewa, danner, thorogood, red wing, whites, trickers, and wolverine, offering a lower cost alternative to viberg or Alden instead of entering a flooded market. The toe reminds me of like a frye boot for women. Just look a tad dainty.

I'm kind of surprised the boots are funding so slowly. I can't remember how many days it took the first sneakers to fund.

I think they'd have to in order to get the price point to what it is and to get that factory to agree to making them. I would bet with the pre-roll out publicity and build up, and in consideration of the likely large prospective order with the factory, these are probably actually funding quite well. Also, I quite like the Naturals and think they are a pretty amazing deal. I mean, what else out there has natural color, is of (likely) similar build quality, and is around that price point? I wouldn't think there's many (if any) that meet it.

BlackCXL up now: Black CXL Boots
I need a pair of black boots. Maybe I'll try these out. Probably get rubber on the soles, but even these don't look "black" to me so Gustin needs to really work on the photos - but after all this time I'd say that's not gonna happen...

I was thinking the same thing about the coloring. I ordered the naturals and I think I'll do a toppy. I did that with my 1ks and made a huge difference. Leather soles are death traps in real winter areas.

I was thinking the same thing about the coloring. Especially given the HUGE contrast between the upper and the sole. The black do look good, but I'd have to treat those soles with something to darken them down and bring out a warmer look in them. As it stands in the promo photos, they almost look like Balsa wood.

For what it's worth, Munro makes a pretty decent woman's shoe. They come in at about the $200 price point. My wife has several pair and they are among her favorites.

Yes you would think black would be easy to capture. Oh well.

A color I like. Yes you would think black would be easy to capture. Oh well. If you want detail, black is one of the hardest colors to capture since the details disappear. You think it's easy because "everyone knows what black looks like", but it couldn't be further from the case, and even moreso if they're using an iPhone. What's weird to me is that these don't look like black to you, if they're grey you should turn down your monitor brightness, since the leather is actually darker than the black heel in the photos. I've also noticed that they do mention the insole construction, saying that it's multiple layers of calfskin, which actually would put them a step above 1ks, quality wise.

I can't remember if they looked blacker on my laptop but I am on my phone now and they are brownish. If I look at my post in the boot conditioning thread my black shoes show up as black and I am far from a professional photographer. Maybe Gustin's pictures do show more detail. I don't know. I do agree that different monitors do show contrast, color and brightness different though. I probably wouldn't have even mentioned anything except I have seen many customers unhappy with the actual color of their product. The reason being it looks different from the Gustin website. pictures. A $75 shirt or pants is one thing, but when you're getting into the $200 area you think you would get a little more critical with it. There really is no reason to have all the pictures more accurate. My $10 on sale Eddie Bauer t-shirts come in looking like the website pictures and there is a dozen colors.

Black is hard to photograph no doubt about it but Gustin has never had the best images for products.

Now that 1599 people haven't won a free pair of boots, maybe they'll start funding faster.
