I'm now thinking 34 may be the safer bet.

I've actually got a spreadsheet with Denimio, OD, and BiG's fit measurements both Raw and OW. I'll add Blue Owl to it now, hahaha.
i think my biggest concern with the waists is do they stretch back out to the raw measurement, or more than the raw measurement?

That price though.
I admit that I want a jean jacket about as much as an STD, but still.

i think my biggest concern with the waists is do they stretch back out to the raw measurement, or more than the raw measurement? not sure I follow. Going by BOW's fit chart for unsanforized denim I always assume at least 1" of shrink in the waist. So, if I'm a 34" waist i'd order jeans with a 35" waist, hot soak them and shrink them down to a 34" waist. I also assume that slubby denim will stretch out a little no matter what. My Strike Gold 1109's are slubby like PBJ denim and the waist has stretched a little, but then again, they don't get much wear so could stretch out more.

Most of my unsanforized denim stretches out some after the initial soak but not back to the raw state, much less past that. And each wash or soak seems to bring them down a little more. They'll stretch back, but it gets to be painful putting them on after five or six washes for the first few minutes/hours.

thanks guys. most of the sizing and fit threads on r/rawdenim seem to indicate that PBJ stretch out in the waist a lot more than other brands. Most recommend sizing for the the thighs and not worrying so much about the waist because of the generous amount of stretch.

The waist is only going to stretch out as much as your body allows it too. If there is nothing to stretch it, then it won't stretch any farther.

Don't forget there's a new, less wonky, cut coming. More rise, bigger thighs, still tapered from the knee down.

Mine came in spot on to bigs measurements. They are accurate bc the measure many and come up with the middle number.

Pretty much ideal. Now to just wait out the xx12 denim.

Pretty much ideal. Now to just wait out the xx12 denim. I have no doubt, the deep indigo denim is planned for this cut. But, Denimio, OD, BiG, and BOW all had recent restocks of the XX-012. All of them have quite a bit of that stock left, as well. I imagine, the remaining stock, and new denim will be allowed to run their course before the deep indigo version of this cut is released. The past couple of years, they have been releasing the XX-012 in late fall. I'd bet on a November, or December release. I'll be watching for the purple face, in this cut. I certainly won't need the deep indigo, since I just purchased a second pair of 1133. Interestingly, PBJ has all but wiped the existence of the deep indigo 1133 from it's .jp website, and BiG has the only limited remaining stock. Between the similarity of the cut to the new one, and the limited appeal of the painter pant design, it's probably no longer relevant. But, if BiG drops the sale price again, I will grab a third pair....

so is it just me or do the thighs still look small on this cut?

so is it just me or do the thighs still look small on this cut? That may just be you. The thigh and rise numbers both scare me a little. I wish each was about an inch less. Also a little nervous about the short inseam. If that shrinks two inches like other unsanforized, I don't have any length left to give. I think I may just get a pair of xx12's tapered.

so is it just me or do the thighs still look small on this cut? looking at size chart on okayama denim looks to be decent thighs for a size 38 (14.2inches) and hopefully with a hot soak will shrink down some. I'm assuming this would shrink down to a 36 waist and tighten up with a warm/hot soak. Might just be the model, the model on the website is wearing a size 28 and is 5"11.
