I haven't seen Pure Blue Japan (PBJ) mentioned yet so I thought I'd start a thread. I've only purchased one item from PBJ, the XX-012 jeans. These are indigoXindigo, unsanforized jeans. Denim weight is 14oz pre soak/shrink. PBJ is known for their slubby texture and proprietary low tension denim weaves. I don't want to write a novel here but these are by far the most interesting jeans I own, the denim is amazing. Put in bit of work doing an online search, I think you'll find some interesting stuff. They have several indigoXindigo jeans and the fades that result from good solid wear and time are unreal. These are the slimmest jeans I own, if you get a pair, size for the thighs as the top block runs a bit larger in comparison. The same denim is available in a slim straight fit, XX-007 I believe and others. Do your own research, Rivet and Hide (Europe), Blue in Green (US) and Denimio (Japan) all have fit guides online. Here's a pic of PBJs just after soak so zero fading and inky blue black. Post shrink, the inseams are about 35 inches on my 32 waist pair so I've got a massive single cuff going in the pic. If you have long legs, these might be your jeans. After about a month they are starting to get some crazy electric blue fades in certain spots. More pics another time....

I'm not allowed any Pure Blue Japan til I learn how to fade denim properly. When I do I hope they're still making those purple ones since they look so amazing. Hadn't heard of Blue In Green, thanks for the mention.

have their deep indigo selvedge jacket and i love it. very good craftsmanship and amazing color. haven't gotten it broken enough to fade yet but it's a lighter weight denim so i'm looking forward to some high contrast coming my way.

Pretty innovative w/ the terracotta weft & slubby texture. Would like to see how these fade - could be phenomenal but look a little funky, imo, when new. Interesting collab.

I understand a love or hate reaction right away with these.
The fades might be amazing because of the way PBJ dyes their cotton before looming up their denim. I think the terracotta color (thanks highlights, better than my orange ha ha) will fade along with the indigo leaving an interesting contrast of orange/indigo in low wear spots and light, denim fade blues to white in the wear areas.
They might look awesome or like absolute crap. I need to avoid the Pronto site for the next three months while drinking and online or I'll wake up with a paypal charge in bot and a questionable pair of pants on the way.

I love what PBJ does with their wefts, I doubt I'm going to make it through 2015 without getting a pair of PBJ. I'd be hesitant on the IndieXOrange, though, since I'm in Denver and Broncos color jeans aren't really the way I wanna go. They'd be great for another Super Bowl party, but I'm not confident the Broncos can take the Patriots this year, especially when they're blowing division seed matches. Can anyone confirm and save me the research -- are all PBJs loomstate unless they're the one-wash version?

They make some jeans that are not selvage and some at are neither selvage or loomstate from what I understand. I think all the xx-### styles are loomstate or one wash though. Check the Wiki.....I thought this was pretty cool. www.purebluejapan-wiki.com/Also, I'm a Denver fan and we are no longer friends since you doubted them in the face of Brady and his band of miscreants. Just kidding man. Those division losses HURT though. St Louis! Ouch!

Rusty orange weft special edition....full disclosure: not my jeans. Apparently a collab between PBJ and Pronto. 17 oz unsanforized, slubby bumpy nasty awesome denim. I love my PBJ's for the texture of the denim. I like those, a lot. Would look great with plain black t-shirt, black jacket and black boots.

Just kidding man. Those division losses HURT though. St Louis! Ouch! When I checked out PBJ they seemed to have pretty thorough sizing information, so I guess figuring those out can be a Q2 project. I seriously thought we were about to lose to the raiders a couple weeks back. I can't figure this team out, tons of talent, but can only seem to put together two quarters of great football per game. I'm hoping for the best, but these games are filled with suspense in all the wrong ways. Looks like we probably found a kicker, though. Hijack complete. I fell in love with the PBJ cobalt and purple wefts. Their fabric almost looks knitted up close, with amazing weft show-through. When it comes down to it, though, I'll probably look at getting something in black with an interesting weft color, if they have something like that available when I'm getting serious about buying them.

Suspense in all the wrong ways. That's about the best summary of the season so far! McManus will take some suspense out of the kicking game though. Being a Denver fan is an exercise in testing loyalty, especially when the roster is this tight and the pieces won't come together.
On the cobalt and purple weft. If I remember correctly, the purple wefts are non selvage (check the description at Blue in Green). On the cobalt, be careful of the construction style if you're into fades. The cobalt weft/indigo warp will fade well but there are also cobalt/cobalt which don't fade much at all.

wanted to chime in again and say that I've been wearing the deep indigo selvedge jacket as a layering element now that we're in the 40s in DC. the denim is incredibly. so soft that it works almost as an overshirt and the slightest of fades are starting to creep in -- really excited to see what this thing looks like by the end of the season.
the quality of this piece is forcing me to look into getting a pair of their jeans - once I can figure out what fit will work best for me...

PBJ XX 012 after about 2 months wear time, just before first soak. Weft fades are kind of interesting. imgur.com/a/TGY7F

You mean you'd pay a bit extra for that natural indigo dyed fabric?

View AttachmentView AttachmentThose are looking great @stevekas, very nice. The fit is a wee bit nut huggersih for me but damn, the jeans are looking damn good. Sick fades for sure. Hey don't mean to stray off topic but how are your American 16ers coming along? Are they still getting wear or are they resting while you work on your others? I remember you had some nice fades coming in on those too.

Hey ickes, it's funny man, I always hesitate to post fit pics here as I wear my jeans too tight for most and I always brace myself to catch hell lol. Funny thing is I've gone full circle 80's tight, pegged punk rock, 90's loose, 00's normal fit and now I'm leaning back to maybe a little tight. Thanks for the comments on the fades, man. I'm really looking forward to seeing these at about 9 months. The sixteeners have been out of rotation a while and look about the same as they did at six months. I love them though. The rotation right now consists of a week in the Onis, a week in the PBJ's, maybe a wild card in there once in a while for a day or two, usually the Okas. I'd like to see some well faded Okas actually as mine are starting to look decent but I'm sure there is someone out there with some epic fades on a pair. How did your HA's end up looking? I remember you were beating on them pretty well at work. I'll circle us back on topic.....Denimio.com is just getting their Spring/Summer 2015 PBJ stuff in. Just a few pieces so far but more apparently coming. Prices are Rakuten good

hey @stevekas, sorry for the late response on this one. It's interesting with my HA's because I have found that with items that I beat the shit out of and wear for 8 hours a day minimum in the shop (HA's, IxI WS) the fades generally aren't as "sick" as items I baby a bit more. For one I get them pretty freaking dirty so they get washed on a regular basis. My HA's were being washed once a week and the weft actually looked more brown than white from all of the dirt/grime, etc...and secondly, as I just mentioned, they get dirty so the weft is discolored which dulls the contrast of the potential fades a bit. That being said though, I actually still have some decent fades going on with my work HA's but they've been out of the rotation a bit as I've outgrown them . I've got a new pair coming shortly though so it's all good. I've actually been wearing my Loomies to work for the last month..lol..just being a little careful with them as to not get any fluids or grease on them (knock on wood).
