Also... In my experience, darned (ie repaired) denim is stronger than the original material, so once you've fixed the cuff blow out, you shouldn't have to do it again.

I have a pair of Brave Star 15.5 oz jeans that I've been wearing daily for 6 months, washed once. They are starting to tear at the fold of the cuff and I'd like to prevent that in the future. I'm all for character and unique wear but I'd prefer my jean to not tear just as they hit their stride. Any tips to prevent it from happening? This happened to me too. My local denim repair shop was able to darn them and they're back to normal. As far as preventing this, here's what I've heard (though I have no actual experience with this): 1) Keep the inside of your cuff clean. All the crap that collects in there rubs against the fabric. 2) Vary the site of the cuff. Every couple of days move the fold 1/8" or so up or down. 3) If all else fails embrace it (or buy 25 oz. denim)

Isn't it usually marked up about 20%? The jeans I looked at during the campaign were $99 and in the stock store they are $119. Wow, that's lame! They just did that, too, because I just bought a pair yesterday when the prices matched and now the purchase price is $7 more. This is annoying true, but (depending on the item) don't you think it's worth paying maybe 20% more to not have to wait 3-4 months? Just got a concrete selvedge oxford from the stock store with some G credit...I had almost forgot what it was like to get something in 5 days.

Vests

A lot of you guys seem to have a decent amount of vests in your wardrobe so I thought it would make sense to start a thread dedicated purely to this item of clothing. At some point i'd like to add some vests to my rotation, but this would be in the future as i'm currently in middle of my 90 day no spend freeze. So which brands do you guys like or have in your collections? So far i've seen IH and i'm aware of Circle A Brand, Rising Sun Mfg, RRL, etc. I'd like to know if there are other brands out there not being represented that I should know about. I like the Circle A Brand vest below, but also some of the IH stuff as well. I like work style vests....not trucker style vests. Circle A Brand Italian Herringbone Vest Ciano makes vests if you don't mind waiting a few months. Lots of fabrics to choose from and under 100 bones.

Aaahhh. scooter and derek , thanks for pointing that out. I was just looking at the horizontal alignment, which is ok, didn't think to check vertical alignment. So obvious now that it's pointed out. I'm learning. I'm learning. Also found out the word for a fear of cacti!!

SS16 lookbook photo..... I will admit, I own nothing from RT. Frankly, I'm not a fan. I've never seen anything from them that justifies the price. Then, I see this, and it confirms my feelings. Why pay RT prices, when I can pay Gustin to fμ©k up a perfectly good fabric like this. Edit: To be fair, the sewn example on the product page is far better. But, it is not without issue. Neither is worthy of the $195 tag. Can you educate me on the problem with this shirt? The fabric isn't my cup of tea, but I don't see any construction defects. Everything looks aligned to my eye. It's the cactus isn't it...you don't like cactus.

Sadly, the other twin cities based furniture company, blu dot, is mostly made in Asia. They also have an outlet in NE Minneapolis though.

I'm gonna have to upgrade some furniture soon, namely a couch, so i'm curious what you guys use. I'm looking to get a leather couch at some point in the future but don't really want to get something cheap for the sake of being cheap. I've looked at Ikea's offerings but theirs do seem overpriced for what you're getting. I'm thinking i'd like to keep the price at $1000 or lower if possible, but I suspect most decent leather couches will be in the $1500-3000 range. As for style, I saw a few through Room & Board and West Elm that looked decent but were over my price range. I want something modern and streamlined with Scandinavian styling. I could be persuaded to go for a basic fabric couch but I fear having a 3yo would make cleaning it a hassle. I don't want to pull a George Costanza and have to flip the couch cushion if my son happens to pee on it. Any leads on quality, preferably US made couches? We just got a room and board couch and they are nice. Almost all their stuff is USA made too I think. As a local twin citian, you could check out the room and board outlet. Its in Golden Valley. Theyre only open on weekends and competition can be pretty fierce, but you might get lucky.

Is the general consensus that the slim and tall fits don't have such a pronounced scoop? I have two Gustin shirts, slim XL, and the scoops on them are about the same as any other shirt I own.

Yeah, they're the indigo with grey thread a couple pages back. As I understand it the black ones that were shown broke. Those look great. I like the grey thread. From the pix, it looks like I ordered the same options with the exception of grey thread. Hopefully I'll get them before it gets too hot.

Well kids, number 1 of 17 has landed, and it was at my house this afternoon. I'd share pictures, but Ciano already did. Funny note, I was sitting here scrutinizing neps and errant threads when I remembered that they were numbered. Perfect fit, super-burly denim. Thanks cianofarmer ! Did you get the indigo?

How much can you reasonably expect lighter weight (I think 9 oz.) canvas to stretch? I bought a pair of edgevale yonder shorts on sale (not eligible for returns) that are probably 0.5 to 1 inch too small in the waist. I've worn them twice and they seem to maybe sorta be stretching, but it might just be wishful thinking. If these were denim I'd feel fairly confident that they would end up ok, but what about canvas? Should I give up on these, or fight the good fight?

So I just bought these shoes in grey: www.sierratradingpost.com/walk-over-edward-suede-shoes-for-men~p~113ya/I realize these aren't the worlds' most amazing shoe, but I wanted a summer kinda casual, but nice enough to wear to work shoe, MiUSA, not hugely expensive and I think it hits those marks. I don't know much/anything about shoe construction. Is there at least a reasonable chance these will be resoleable? At the very least, a cobbler should be able to peel the old sole off and glue something on, amirite?

There are plenty that aren't successful and you will never heard of. Best case you start shipping a ton of product and get bought by a bigger company. i'm sure there are some that fail. Here in Minneapolis the craft brew industry has done well thanks to Surly. Now every Tom, Dick and Harry is starting their own company. One of the local breweries got their start by having another company produce their beer. I didn't know that was a thing but I'm guessing that so long as you have a decent beer recipe anything is possible. I was talking to one of the guys from a different brewery and he said it was pretty easy getting their stuff into bars and stores. He said the problem was keeping up with demand. It's good to have healthy competition among breweries but at the same time the saturation can be overwhelming. I think there was a pent up demand for craft brewing in Minnesota prior to passage of the "surly law" a few years ago that made craft brewing economically feasible in this state. As a result of that pent up demand, we're now riding what I assume is a craft brewing bubble that will probably tail off soon. That said, exploring these new tap rooms is great fun. I happen to live fairly close to NE Minneapolis where most of the brewing action is happening and every time I turn around a new brewery is opening. For you beer tourists, its a trip worth taking. In the summer.

Other than citrus IPAs, I really like the idea of taking other styles of beer and hopping the hell out of them, IPA-style. There are definitely some styles of beer that get out of whack when a bunch of hops are dumped into them, but I've had some Belgian IPAs and even a Saison IPA that was awesome. I wish more breweries did that kind of thing.
That being said, I am probably an outlier on how hoppy I like my beers.

For those of you within the Ballast Point distro footprint, I highly reccomend Sculpin and its variants (pineapple and grapefruit). They ain't cheap off the shelf, about $15 a sixer, but it's still cheaper than trading and easily competes with the more "rare" IPA's. Just had a couple Pineapple Sculpins last night and can hardly believe something so good is available at Trader Joe's. Grapefruit Sculpin is probably my new favorite beer. Ballast Point started distribution here in Minnesota about a year ago and I've been drinking it ever since. I keep expecting to get tired of it, but it hasn't happened yet. Other breweries are doing the citrus/IPA thing (Lagunitas, Deschutes, Surly a little bit at their brewery) but Ballast Point is the league leader in my opinion. Something about the hops and the fruit playing off each other...

He has good stats. Early in the game, early in the season, etc. you can have him. We have veered wildly off topic here, but was anyone a Grantland reader back in the day? Their main football writer, Bill Barnwell, was always a supporter of Romo. Here's one example from the archives: grantland.com/features/bill-barnwell-week-5-nfl/Suffice it to say, I think there are probably about 20 NFL teams who would gladly trade their QB for Romo. As a Bears fan I would trade Cutler for Romo in a heartbeat. Ironically, the shut down of Grantland made me look for another website that I could read during down time at work. That led me to this forum. So I have Bill Simmons to blame for the denim explosion in my closet.

Should have backed the Jack, oops. Material is tits though. My thoughts exactly. I liked the material, thought the workshirt cut would be more suitable than the Jack. I backed the Jack and regretted it after seeing a few of the teaser pics of the jacquard work shirt. Now that the full pocket silliness has been revealed, I am quite pleased with my earlier choice. Agree with bentin though. That cross jacquard is awesome. Are there other brands using jacquard much? It's such a cool looking fabric.

I have, but mostly this is a statement on making sure your operation is working well before taking on other challenges. I guess I would have ensured production delays and sizing issues had been properly addressed before venturing into leather jackets. Making sure their operation is working well by making a statement in a forum where there's little to no Gustin presence? All in the same boat here. There's been an update, and all we can do is believe them. Otherwise, email them to cancel the order. C'mon man. Let me have my venting space...

Dear Gustin: Please stop making leather jackets and send me my selvedge canvas indigo chinos that I backed in December 2015. They were supposed to be done in January. It is now March. Sincerely, Nate I know you're frustrated and likely understand how ridiculous this is as a request, but is it safe to assume you've reached out to their customer service? I have, but mostly this is a statement on making sure your operation is working well before taking on other challenges. I guess I would have ensured production delays and sizing issues had been properly addressed before venturing into leather jackets.
