Just received duffle bag 2.0. Some good some bad.
For the better.
Shoulder strap actually has padding Shoulder strap connection is more sturdy Strap also used true brass hardware and it's a huge improvement. Two leather feet Two zippers for main closure. (You could lock the bag before using the shoulder strap mounting ring. This isn't a huge thing for me but to some it is) Shoulder strap is stronger with canvas webbing and new mounting
For the worse: Canvas webbing for the shoulder strap doesn't blend and is a step down visually from the leather. No zippered side pocket! - this is huge I love the side pocket with a zipper. Huge bummer!

I really wanted to back the duffle but I read there were QC issues with the first version. If they released a small duffle in the brown waxed canvas i'd likely bite. don't know why that haven't released one already after having put up two campaigns for the small duffle in olive waxed canvas

In the duffel thread outside of the denim brands, we were discussing Owen & Fred. They do have an inside zipper pocket and a few more color options. Might be a good alternative for people. Onlyu $99 with 10% off the first purchase.

As of now I believe there to be much better deals out there for duffles.

Has anyone noticed sun damage on the waxed duffle or the waxed layer being affected by high temps in a car? I did notice some black/blue streaks but I think that's from my jeans. Also, does not feel as "waxed" anymore....got a heat spike in northern Cali.

I'm tempted by the current olive waxed duffle offering (in stock). Should I or shouldn't I?

I wouldn't. No outside zipper pocket, no extra internal pocket, the strap is canvas now. I think other brands have a better offerings.

There's a version 1.0 available online (new, unused) in black. Thoughts?

I like 1.0 better. The hardware isn't as good as 2.0 when it comes to the shoulder strap but they are fine.

I'm tempted by the current olive waxed duffle offering (in stock). Should I or shouldn't I? Not sure if it's v1 or 2 you speak of, but as one of the original waxed olive duffle owners, I can only say good things about my bag. I've flown 5 times since I got it last year and it's help up very nicely as my carry-on. I even had some contents of my carry-on spill in the bag - merely rinsed it with water, no staining or issues. Worst issue with the bag is the indigo that rubbing off on it from my denim. I like the character that it's developing.

I will say that after looking at v2 vs. my v1, I'm more partial to the v1. The outside zipper pocket was a nice addition that at least adds some small semblance of security when traveling about. If you can get one with an inside pocket option, I'd probably lean that way, but it hasn't been an inhibitor for me over my travels today. My messenger bag carries all the vitals like keys, passports, wallets, etc.

I wish they had the zippered outside pocket on the new duffles. Also an internal pocket would be huge.

So I just came across this link here: www.artofmanliness.com/2014/06/03/how-to-wax-your-own-clothing-and-gear/ and I think I'm going to get a duffle from Owen & Fred and try to wax the canvas on it. One of my sticking points is that I want a bag with waxed canvas mainly for the vintage and patina look it will have. Once I get it in and wax it I will post pictures.

now that my BxB trucker fell through the cracks I should have a brown duffle on its way to me. I hope it's nice. I basically had to choose between a dark oak trucker or the duffle. I opted for the duffle because I really don't need another trucker.

I just took delivery of my duffel and I like what I see. the construction seems decent enough, but the only thing that gives me pause is whether or not the shoulder strap connection is sturdy enough and can withstand constant weight. Not that it should matter, I don't envision using this bag a whole helluva lot, so it's not like i'll be beating the crap out of it. I also don't mind that it doesn't have a size zipper.

Best part of the duffel (especially in brown) will be the future denim rub off that will happen when you use the bag enough. I'm seeing it a ton on my v1 in olive green.

My V2 def seems like the shoulder straps are much stronger than V1. But I miss the side pocket much. So I use my V1 bag with a v2 strap.

my first impressions so far are positive. The bag isn't as big as I thought it would be, which is actually kinda nice. Long story short, I had elbow surgery last week and have been unable to use my left arm. I just moved into a new apartment and had to transport some of my clothing from the car, so I packed what I could into the duffel and made 3 trips. I was able to fit a decent amount into the bag, so this will make an ideal weekend getaway bag at the very least.

Long-term usage update on my V1 G duffle. I've used this consistently as my travel bag over the past 1.5 years of use, for work and play, and it's been a perfect carry-on bag. It finally reached it's limit for use. Over the weekend during a trek up to Boston, I was walking from Fenway to Cambridge and one of the shoulder strap seams ripped out and the bag fell on the ground. Slightly annoying as I still had about a half mile to walk. I'm not going to discredit G on this. I've worked the bag hard, but I see it as an opportunity to "enhance" that seam. I'm planning to take it to my tailor when I return to reinforce that.
For a little perspective, I have traveled with an extra pair of shoes from time to time, and I also carry a Macbook air and just the normal weight of clothes. I'd say on average, it's withstood a consistent weight of 30-35 lbs per trek.
The canvas has held up well. It needs a good cleaning and re-waxing. The non pocket side is a shade of blue/olive from the denim wear from use.
I'm debating grabbing an Owen & Fred duffle with a 10% off discount.
