Grabbed one of these, put it on a maratac mil band and have worn it daily since. This is such a cool watch especially for the price. Get one and buck the ridiculously over sized watch trend!

Well thanks for pointing it out! I bought it within 60 seconds of seeing your post. I had a cool Seiko auto a while back, dressier watch, loaned to a friend and never got it back. I dig the military type dials, and the medium size is great for me. Now that it's back at a higher price, I'd be tempted by some of the other Seiko 5 watches. There's one in this same case, but the dial has large Arabic numbers which are lume, very cool, even simpler dial design, or some 41mm styles as well.

I can't stand the huge watch trend. Ridiculous if you ask me. You guys talking about those gadawful Invictas? They're so dopey, and the fact that they say they MSRP at over $1k is laughable.

I have the SNK809 and paid $56 for mine awhile back. Definitely a good budget watch and even better looking when you swap the strap out. i've got a cheap Di Modello strap on mine - black with white contrast stitching.

I searched high and low for a CXL watchstrap but ultimately gave up. CXL is such a thin leather and I was looking for a company that sells a lined strap, similar to my CXL belt from Rancourt. I can't recall but I think Leffot may have had a lined CXL watch strap at some point but it cost more than the Seiko itself and I couldn't justify the purchase.

Isn't the Gustin watch strap chromexcel? Yep, stretchy mofo. Mine fit perfectly at first, but now it's pretty loose and I'm about to need to move to the next hole. DaLuca makes good leather straps that don't stretch as much (unless you buy their CXL ones) and makes them in funny colors too, if you like being annoying, a particular strength of mine. www.dalucastraps.com

I apparently skipped over the "lined cause stupid-stretchy" part. Probably a good idea just to stick with veg-tan if you're looking for full grain, I think it'd have to be a split otherwise way too thick for a watch strap.

If we're talking lined / backed, I'd assume you're not looking for a ZULU or NATO style? The Gustin NATO strap adds a good 4-5mm under the watch and the closure is 15mm thick, so even with French cuffs, I have a hard time keepig my relatively thin Sinn under the cuff. A lined band would be hugely thick.

A lined band would be hugely thick. That's how they work. SO if you have a beefy watch like I do, it's even more pronounced, but you'll never lose a watch due to a broken pin. I've got three of the Seiko 5's since they're good basic pieces, look nice, and are inexpensive. Sometimes you just don't to certain places wearing an expensive watch...

That's why I wear brands like Sinn and Minerva. They get even less attention than Seiko. If it's really dicey, I just skip the watch.
I have a few custom bicycles and tend to be lax about locking them to the roof rack on road trips, etc. I ride with friends with big brand bikes, they'll get stolen way before anyone even looks at my shit, regardless of what anything is worth.

Sinn and damasko are what I'd go for if I had the bucks at the moment. There's a mod for the Seiko to get the 556 look, but I think I'll just enjoy mine as is for now.

I have a co-worker that swears by invictus. He constantly buys and sells $2000 rare models. 60mm and like 20mm thick they are nonsense
