As i've poured over numerous internet articles i've found it incredibly interesting and inspiring to read how a lot of denim companies got their start. I'm talking about companies like Gustin, Rogue Territory, Railcar Fine Goods, etc. The one common trait these companies share is that the founders all learned how to sew, cut and make patterns for their lines. They didn't just walk ass backwards into success - through hard work, perseverence and the sheer love of denim they were able to build their companies from the ground up into successful ventures.
Of all these success stories, Karl Thoennessen of Rogue Territory is the most interesting to me. I believe he apprenticed at American Rag and then started doing alterations and custom jeans. This eventually led him to develop the Stanton jeans which has become iconic in his range of goods. The point being, he was such a denim nerd that he took his interest one step further and learned the craft of pattern making, sewing and cutting. I've been eyeballing his waxed canvas ridgeline supply jacket for awhile but I need another waxed trucker jacket like I need a third eye.
What do you guys think? Which companies inspire you?
