So while doing some research for one of my classes, I stumbled upon some forum (that I can't remember) where someone (who I can't remember) linked the following company: Kiriko
Website: www.kirikomade.com/collections/denim
I was pretty much in love as soon as I saw them. They are a very new company, and only recently made a foray into denim, but hot damn. I strongly encourage you to check out their other products as well.
Anyways, about the denim:
The Good:
- They Japan really hard.
- Production quality seems top notch.
- Ships from deadstock.
- With the introduction of shibori and tsubaki, which I've never seen anyone else use (I realize I might just be ignorant of other brands who do this), they really have their own unique aesthetic.
- The shibori and tsubaki are ridiculously beautiful!
- Customer service is great - they are responsive, and you can even tell the shipping is done with love.
- They actually emailed me to ask how they could improve their next round of denim, which should be released somewhat soon.
The Not-Bad-But-Could-Be-Improved:
- As of right now, they only have a zipper option - I suggested they need to get into the fly button game asap. (But this definitely was not a deal-breaker for me.)
- Belt loops are maybe a millimeter or two too small - fairly trivial, but my Gustin belt *just* makes it through.
- They only offer a 32 inch inseam, which I know for you tall people may not cut it (works for me at 5'10), especially given the fact that the point of these is to display as much of that pattern as possible.
The Bad/Ugly:
- Nothing as far as I can tell!
If anyone is interested in sizing, they do seem to use "real" measurements. I'm a 31 Gustin and I got a 32 from Kiriko and they are just ever-so-slightly big, but after a wash will be perfect.
