I'd eventually like to buy a small duffel at some point but I simply can't decide on brand. I know I'd like one in waxed canvas, so that pretty much leaves Gustin and Filson as my current choices. The downside, I would only buy a Filson if it were on discount. I would gladly back a small duffel from Gustin but I've read that there were QC issues with their last iteration of the duffel. I'm assuming the new version has structural updates and for the price it seems well worth it. But then again, I want a duffel that will last me for life.
What other brands are worth looking in to?

I got the filson small duffel locally and it was better then the pricing from the states Very happy with it.
I scored a cheap Duluth pack mini safari for $62 on amazon and have the filson denim duffel sitting at my friends place waiting for me to pick up on my way to portland.
Going to drop by the filson outlet in Burlington on the way down too My wide thinks I'm weird for buying all these duffels.
I was o the fence about the frost river carry on duffel but ultimately chose the filson over it,I do live the waxed look.
If gustin released the small duffel in tan I'd back that asap

Just stumbled across these: www.owenandfred.com/collections/duffel-bagsWhile I got in on the first G offering, I may consider a second duffel as a seasonal/beach alternative, while keeping my classic olive G duffel for travel back to the east coast or for work travel.

They look really sharp. If I didn't get the G duffel, I'd probably consider one of these.

Forgot to mention, they do 10% off the first purchase. With these at $99, I'm probably jumping on these American made alternatives.

Nice find. I'm torn because I really want Gustin to make a small brown waxed canvas duffle, but the O&F duffles look decent too. I guess I'm partial to waxed canvas, but the O&F duffle could double as a knock around/beater bag

Worth noting, these are sized for the small G duffel, not as large as the regular G duffel.

Worth noting, these are sized for the small G duffel, not as large as the regular G duffel. I backed a kickstarter for the Bomber Barrel to support the guys that sell it (they've run some good projects). It's a pretty cool bag but doesn't hit (probably) any of your high points. Not made in USA, no waxed canvas, and I really don't know why I'm even talking about it here. It's a duffle bag, so it's on topic. It's about the same footprint as the small Gustin duffel, but to be honest doesn't have much on it when it comes to looks, the horween leather with waxed canvas is great. Ripstop is good for a gym bag, but it really doesn't patina (which is part of why it's a good gym bag).

Does anyone know if there is a waxed canvas duffel with a shoe compartment on the bottom and a laptop compartment above the shoes?
