What kind of inseam shrinkage are you guys experiencing with *sanforized* jeans? In particular, after cold washing/hang drying? And if you are getting some shrinkage, about when does it hit...after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or later wash? Ultimately how much inseam length can one expect to lose with sanforized? I'm new to raw denim as of about a year ago, and haven't washed any of my jeans yet.

All of my Sanforized pairs shrank about an inch after the first soak. Later soaks didn't change much but I haven't washed any yet.

It really depends on how tightly woven the fabric is, and how much agitation occurs during the wash. But yeah, usually I see either ~1" or nothing at all.

How is the shrinkage with chinos? Anyone have a personal experience?

How is the shrinkage with chinos? Anyone have a personal experience? A hot wash pulled the inseam up probably about two inches on my caramel "fat-pants", cold wash on my slim charcoal chinos didn't change the inseam too much, maybe half an inch. This is Japan vs. American twill, though, so I don't know how useful the information really is since I've only got one of each, and handled them completely different.

The cold wash and a tumble in the dryer on my graphite and khaki chinos didn't do much at all to shrink them, they both need a trip to the tailor for hemming. The heavy caramels haven't hit water yet.

Holy crap 2"! That's nuts. Looks like cold washing and hand drying. I accounted for .5" of shrink at the tailors but not 2".

Hell, if I got 2" of shrink in the leg on my caramels, I wouldn't need to get them hemmed. Hmmm, maybe I should run them through now...

So I checked the measurements before tossing my heavy caramels into the wash, and the inseam looked like it came in around 33.5". I'd call that "under spec". So hopefully they don't turn into capris.

Looks like I only lost 0.25" to 0.50" on the inseam after the dryer on delicate. Hanging them upside down to finish drying and prevent further shrinkage. That'll save me a couple of bucks if I don't have to get them hemmed.

And just to follow up, after hanging upside down, they're just about back to 33.5", so a win all around.

My gf wasn't paying attention and threw my Military Twill chinos in the wash on warm and dried them on the inferno setting and they shrunk about 3/4" in the inseam. Surprisingly no shrink to speak of in the waist or thighs.
