They look old. And they're probably also wearing polyester. Skip. I'm only concerned that it seems like you don't know who they are, which would be mind-blowing. Either way, though, I can tell you those pants are likely at their belly-buttons, and that's a look I won't do since it's no longer 1960. What it comes down to, though, is fit and confidence. If it fits right, it's going to look good, and if it looks good, you're going to kill in it. And pleated........

My Ledbury dress shirts are button downs, and I have no problem wearing then with a suit and tie. They look great in a suit with or without a tie.

Redford in the middle (oops, I assume it's Paul Newman, whose salad dressing is pretty good, never thought about his shirts) and a man who I respect for his voice and music, but don't care how he dressed last. I love Steve McQueen, but that's not going to make me wear motorcycle jackets with epaulets or drive a 60 year old car. Fashion changes, regions and industries are different. I work in finance, so French cuffs, spread collars and sadly, braces, are common. Button down collars really only happen on Casual Fridays with no tie. But to the point, I have no expectation of wearing any Gustin shirt to work, no matter the collar.

"Non button down" pisses me off. Button down collar, spread collar, point collar, club collar etc.
My dress shirts are spread collars for the most part. I do have a couple button down collar OCBC dress shirts they have a nice collar roll and very traditional look at Brooks Brothers. Classic.
Also I highly doubt huge stars of the 1950/60's are wearing poly. I have about 6 high end suits from that time period and they are all wool 100% the 1970's was the poly time period.

Oh and the 60's were known for flat front more tailored trousers and suits in general.

Who's the first one anyway? I tried to make it Ronald Reagan, but that doesn't seem right.

Who's the first one anyway? I tried to make it Ronald Reagan, but that doesn't seem right. He said right below them, and it's Cary Grant but I think you're just being silly at this point (based on what you've revealed of your age). If you're not being silly, then I also think you need to see North by Northwest. Immediately. Like, leave work, go find it, go home and watch it.

I'm 41. I've seen it, it's a solid meh plus.
What's funny is that I'm a history buff, I love WWII history, Spanish Civil War and a bit of WWI stuff too. But none of that has me trotting out shit that might have looked okay using the way back machine.
Moving on...

Just a caveat, my mom's in town. She's driving me and my wife crazy. I'm not always this crabby.

Of those 3 images I posted, it looks like only Paul Newman's is a suit that a man could wear today without looking too eccentric (depending on waistline and pleats, naturally). Grant's wide lapels and Sinatra's long pointed collar aren't really acceptable at the moment.
My point was that they were 3 undeniably sharp dressers, and the button-down collar is only a detail to the overall look. It's like the difference between 2 buttons and 3, single-vented or double, having a pocket handkerchief or not. All are valid if done right.
Saying that, I don't think I'd wear a Gustin shirt with a suit. Unless it was a denim work shirt under my safari suit.

But if I was going tie-lessly formal, I'd consider wearing their blue or white oxford button down with a suit.

OCBD with a sport coat and nice pants, even - or maybe especially - denim, greats look. With a SUIT, button down collars don't look right. It's semantics maybe, but a big difference in my silly little head. And yes, I realize that all of this is pretty silly. The point of, if it looks good, it looks good is 100% true. Some of you guys can rock the Oxbloods, and they work great for you, but I can't pull that off. So some of it depends on the man as well. I have never seen a picture of Paul Newman where he didn't look great.

Open button down collar with a summer suit is always going to work. If I don't have socks on I've probably run out of f*@%s to give about the points on my unbuttoned collar. Haters gonna hate.
EDIT: but if you unbutton the points of a button down collar you can burn in hell lol

It's a nice looking shirt, but I wish the buttons were darker, like a brown or black, so they didn't pop when looking at the shirt.

There are no button holes in the top face of the collar, it seems that it's a hidden button down collar? That I can probably get behind -- so many buttons on collars in my closet at this point, I think I could handle it with a different aesthetic.

I'm sort of hoping they have more of that oddly colored slate fabric and that they make this shirt out of it (this looks like the same fabric only green).
