So a thought came to me today when I was reading the discussion on Styleforum about Gustin carrying stock. While I don't agree with them stocking items on the regular, I do think they need to somehow alleviate the uncertainty of backing an item and waiting 3 months to see if it fits. The idea of sizing through the stock store or Ebay is silly to me because nobody wants to hassle with reselling items that don't fit. Plus, G doesn't benefit from me buying an item via EBay.
Anyways, my thought was this. Why not make 5 of each type of item in all sizes and keep them on hand. Not 5 of each fabric, just 5 pairs of jeans, chinos, shirts, coats etc to sPec. Hell, you could make them out of cheap bullshit fabric to cut costs. If someone wants to try a size, they can "rent" the try on pair. They pay shipping (2 day priority mail) and have 10 days to return the item. Pre-authorize their credit card for $100, only charge if you don't get the item back.
This would make sizing easier and lead to more sales. In my case, if I knew they fit well, I'd have ordered 4 more pairs of jeans and 3 shirts by now. It would also be sort of a pain in the ass for G, but less so than a customer waiting months to figure out a size.
Thoughts?

They could send you a pair of Heavy Americans in your size put a $80 hold on your card, if you send them back your $80 is put towards another pair. Could work, but a bit to much for a small company to keep track of. Plus after some time those Heavy Amercan jeans will stretch, with guys trying to squeeze into them. Making them not spec. I think its best for everyone to figure it out themselfs. We have all learned a lot on our first pairs. Let everyone earn there stripes.

You are assuming they sew each pair exactly to the fit guide specs. I am a large 36slim or a small 37slim. Some 36's have sewn up like 34's and some 37's more like 38. My chambray shirt shrunk to a medium.

Yeah, I don't see much upside for Gustin with something like that. Honestly, if you follow their measurement advice accurately and the jeans you order from them show up on spec (or at least within tolerances), there really shouldn't be any major problems with fit.
As noted by others, there is always going to be some degree of variation from pair to pair because different denims will stretch, shrink, and soften up differently in response to the way they're worn and washed. And then of course, there's the simple fact that these are hand-made jeans. You're likely to discover that even two pairs with virtually identical out-of-the-bag measurements will fit a little bit different because of this.
That said, I have close to a dozen Gustin jeans and while no two of them fit exactly alike, none are ill-fitting. And I've found that a month or two of semi-regular wear will smooth out a lot of the variation. The more you wear a new pair, the more they start to fit like your older ones.
