OK, so I lied. I used the hammer. More leaks in that window. I dumped a crapload of CaCL on the ice to try and loosen it up. Maybe by tomorrow I can break it apart. This winter sucks.

Oh man, clearing ice dams. Do I ever NOT miss that shit.
I have been free of serious winter weather for most of the 15 years since I flew the ancestral coop. Of that branch of my family, there are just three of us (out of close to 30 people between the various aunts, uncles, cousins, and all) who now live outside of New England. The other two made it as far as NYC and north Jersey, respectively.
I catch grief at family gatherings for being the wuss who ran away to live in California and now Florida (they conveniently leave out the intervening stops in Seattle and London; not exactly the friggin' riviera). And to that I say ... yup. Who's laughing now, suckers?

Well, it's getting ready to dip below 40F here tonight for the first time all winter. I've got a fire in the fireplace and the first whisky of the season in my glass. Brrrrrr...

Brrrrrr... 40 below F without windchill in Northern Minnesota last night. We had -15F last night in Minneapolis. Warmed up quite a bit now 7F. 40 above people would be putting the tops down.

No kiddin'. When I was in college, the first day of late winter or early spring when the temps finally made it into the 40s was when everyone would bust out the shorts. I also recall (vividly) what -40 felt like when I was on a research icebreaker down in the Antarctic many years ago. That is serious shit right there. After experiencing that, I've never had a problem remembering the bit of trivia that -40 is where the F and C scales converge. So you can tell anyone around the world that you had -40, and they'll be equally impressed. Unless it's some weirdo who thinks of everything in Kelvin, in which case he'll either nominate you for a Nobel or think you're a complete idiot.

Roof shoveling moonscape for the MF'ing win. I have to chisel ice when I get home.
[edit] 3# mini sledge + 8" rock chisel = busted ice. If only there was more light in the day.

My great-grandfather at the family farm in Vermont, circa 1950-something. Getting ready to shovel out his Jeep. It's in there somewhere.

Didn't get squat north of I90. I'm not complaining, if any more water comes through my roof...

They cancelled school here in Austin because of an ice storm warning. Turns out it was sunny and 48 Deg by 2 pm and there never was any ice. Hard times here in the south.

So looks like Beantown beat it's prior snowfall record. 108.6 inches of snow for the 2014-2015 season.

We could get April Fools storm. But even if we do get another storm, it'll all be melting in a few weeks. Now bring on the mud and flooding.

Its been a strange Winter. Mt. Baker to the north of me, is the world record holder of annual snowfall at 95 feet, and they aren't even open now for skiing, and I have turned in my corporate ski tickets for this year, as I've already started mowing the lawn.
You guys are getting hit with our usual Winter, with your own.
