Has anyone experienced the Frye Walter boots yet? I like the style of the boot and found a pair used for $200 I might grab I have the chukka version. Anything in particular you want to know? Does your wife own any Fryes? Looking to spring for a pair of boots for my girlfriend but have no idea on women's footwear. She's not a very patient break-in type of person. Tom's have been solid for her for fall weather booties, but have considered getting her something more substantial for winter boots.

She's not a very patient break-in type of person. Tom's have been solid for her for fall weather booties, but have considered getting her something more substantial for winter boots. I don't know if your girlfriend is looking for ankle-high booties or a more serious boot that comes up to the calf/knee, but the following pertains to the taller boots. Wifebert has two pairs of Frye boots, one she loves and one she hates. The former is from the Campus line and is similar to this boot but without quite as aggressive a lug sole. Those are her trusty shit-kickers for bad weather, and she's had them for probably close to ten years. They don't get as much use in Florida as they did when we lived in London and Seattle, but they seem to have been quite durable. She picked up the other pair about six weeks ago to take on a trip to SF for a week-long conference. I'm not sure which ones they are, but I want to say they look like something from the Melissa line. Anyway, as she just told me via text, "I'm not wild about those, and they shredded my tootsies." She too is not a very patient break-in type of person. The other pair she got around the same time for the same trip are the Roxie boot by Born. She came back raving about those and how they were immediately comfortable. So those might be another good one to check out (along with Frye's Campus line) unless not being made in the USA is a dealbreaker for you. Born manufactures in China, Vietnam, and Mexico. Also, I should say that Wifebert has strong, athletic woman calves and not slender, delicate lady calves. From what I'm told, tall boot preference among females is hugely dependent on their physiology in that area, so your girlfriend may have a very different interpretation of what 'comfortable' entails if she has a different build.

I am glad that your girlfriend like this style. My wife HATES all my boots, except the AE Dalton and some 10+ years old Gucci and Prada boots. Actually, she hates my current style. She wants me to be dressier....

Thanks for all the good info. My ladyfriend is definitely a petite Asian, without an ounce of athleticism. Trying to get her to lift with me, but that's been a failed proposition so far. I was thinking of surprising her with a pair of boots, but I think that may be a bad idea, since, as you say, she may have a different definition of what's comfortable. I'll just get her a nice wallet instead, and I'll drag her along to go shopping for boots (she hates shopping). Edit: She has enough booties, and doesn't own any knee or calf high boots. She bought a pair of knee high Fryes, and said she loved the look, but they were so uncomfortable that she had to return them. I explained a lot of boots has a break in process, but she said no thank you.

I'm pretty sure she'll be the same way in a few years. Half my closet doesn't get any wears, mostly hoodies/sweats/shorts/logo t-shirts, because she doesn't approve of them for anything but working out.

My closet are full of "Styleforum" approved clothing items in the "Streetwear and Denim" section. Beside my work clothes, my wife wants me to change my wardrobe to the style of the "Classic Menwear" section. Not going to happened.

Just on the subject of women's footwear, this is something that's irritated me for a while, as it's so hard to get good quality women's shoes, compared to decent men's ones. Sure, you can easily spent hundreds of pounds or dollars, but the quality of the shoe is often no more than a hundred dollar pair, as you pay so much extra for the label.
Anyway, after a lot of looking around, the best quality I've seen so far is Frye and Trickers. Frye give a lot of bang for the buck, with decent leather and a huge range of styles. My wife has the Harness boots and an engineer looking pair and likes them a lot.
Trickers is just the really good quality you'd expect, but there's only about 4 styles. She has one pair of them and even she can see the difference.
If anyone knows any other quality women's brands I'd be interested to know, as I feel guilty that my footwear is so much better than hers and want to up her game.

Not to be a downer on this one, but she's probably right, and you're likely better dressed for it.

Not quite there yet with the girlfriend. Will keep them in the archives though.
