I always wanted a pair. Then I found red wings and I put the Dalton's by the way side. Thought the Dalton's were a bit too dressy for my normal daily wear. Now I am seeing them with more casual outfits and they look pretty good. Anyone have a pair? Opinions?

They look really nice, but they're a little too trim for my liking.
I like a brogue boot with a welt that sticks out a little farther from the upper.

I want a pair to wear with suits. Standard/low cut dress shoes look awful to me, I just donated a couple of pairs and can't bring myself to wear them.

Mora 2.0s in bourbon are my favorite versatile pair. If you can't do low cut dress shoes, you should consider some non-brogue options like the Dundees. I'm considering selling a few pairs of AEs and saving up to buy a pair of shell Dundees. Or you could take a look at the captoe Bleeker Street:

I got a pair of color #8 shell cordovan Daltons. They were seconds and I scored them new for $299. I wear them once in a while, but they are a little flashy for my taste for daily use. I keep them shined and clean and maybe wear them once per month. I figure they'll last me a lifetime if I wear them as seldom as I do.

At the end of the day, if you are wearing a really dressy shoe or boot with your jeans, you'll end up looking like an old guy trying to wear dress shoes with jeans. brentkuz to address your initial question, if you are buying them with the intention of primarily wearing them with jeans, I'd personally look at something else that is a bit more casual.

I totally agree with that. For my tastes, a work boot/shoe is as dressy as I go with jeans, with the exception of some nice, polished western boots. Once you get to those Edmonds, etc it's time for a chino or the like.

Besides suits and trousers I really can't see many pants looking good with them. I'm on the fence.

I had a pair but recently sold them because I felt they were too dressy. Instead, I now wear a pair of vintage Florsheim Imperial long wings to get a similar but more casual look.

Agree with everyone here. I have five pairs of AE's and I only wear them (including a pair of Chili Dalton) to work. They are too dressy. Btw, I am not into the look of brogue boot for jeans but if I do, I will go for Trickers or Church's because they are more rugged.

After much looking and thinking I don't think they go well with denim.

If you're set on AE boots, the brown burnished Odenwalds look pretty good.

Jumping on this thread in lieu of making a new one. Just wanted to share pics of my latest thrifty pick up: Allen Edmonds "Bagley" wingtips. Picked them up from Etsy for only $70, and they really are like new aside from the soles being walked in and some slight cracking around the backa and tops.

After a week of debating with myself, I decided against this item because it's a half size too big for me. Factor Seconds Dalton boot in Natural Shell, on eBay for $549. (Not my item) m.ebay.com/itm/301504593899

They look really nice. I would have considered them if they weren't one and a half sizes too small.

I'm still considering. They are BEAUTIFUL, especially the color..... How do these boots fit? True to size?

Btw, AE is having a sales right now on Shell 2nd. I believe they are all $399 but unsure there are any Dalton available. shoebank.com/FactorySecondInventory.phpRegarding the Dalton, it is quite dressy. Most of my work shoes are AE's and I seriously don't wear any of them outside of work. Never consider any AE Shell because of that.

I've seen some great casual-cool outfit combos with them, so I'm not worried about that so much. They DO actually look great with jeans and chinos, in the right fit.

I have a pair of Shell color #8 Daltons in size 13B that I wore maybe 20 times. I should really sell them because they get no use these days. These are crappy pics of them in my basement: Maybe I'll take them outside, get a few nice pics, and try to sell them.
