Saw these Woolrich Yankee boots over on Dappered this morning. They retail for $300 but you can get the brown for ~$131 and the black for ~$136 w/ coupon GRNMON14 on Amazon. Goodyear welted w/ Horween leather. Price seems more than worthwhile to give them a shot. Since it's from Amazon - easy return policy and free shipping. I read a half review of them (guy got 'em in a size larger than needed and recommends going down a size like with other quality boots) and it sounds like the quality is spot on. I've got the buckskin (tan) color coming. Here's a link to that pseudo-review - it's a round-up of similarly priced shoes.

They look very solid. Goodyear welt with Horween leather and they can be resole down the road. I like the black one better because I am not into the "gold" eyelets of the other one. If someone needs a pair of bad weather boots, it is a no brainer at this price.

Yep. I want a pair of black boots but am holding out for the 1k Austens. I was planning a pair of 1ks in tan but never thought they'd get much wear...at half the cost, these might work out for me. I'm not a big gold fan either but my main issue with the buckskin is the non-burnished outersole - I like it on the black but think it's a little lifeless on a more monochromatic upper. I might try to darken it up when I get 'em.

Otherwise, you may need to sand the outersole down, so the color can be absorbed. For me, I just cannot get over the gold eyelets.

I hate you guys so much but love you at the same time. I had been eyeing these at full price. Woodwright in Salt Marsh/Ash (the ones with the grey wool trim).

Nice looking boot. Unfortunately, the drilling of hundreds of non-functional holes in the vamp (water entry points are the enemy) along with the moisture wicking fabric lining make it a no go for a foul weather boot in my book. My Russell Moccasin Art Carters win another reprieve, and march on.

Well let's be forthright here. if water-tightness is your goal, and style is secondary, there are a lot of ways to go that would be a better solution. Those mocs are cool, but not my style, however I'm glad you have boots that keep your feet dry that you enjoy. It seems to hint at full gusseting on those, is the tongue fully gusseted?

Totally agree with functionality over style. If you are referring to the Russell Moccasin Art Carter Traveling Sportsman's, yes they are gusseted. However, with a "true" moccasin style chukka height boot it is more important to have a double or triple vamp as explained on the Russell website. If you like the moccasin style, those boots look a lot better in person than the pictures on the website. In addition, you have not witnessed real high grade leather (non-shell) until you feel real French Veal hides.

Woodwright showed up today, I've been wearing them all afternoon. The Amazon review complained about "partial" and "thin" wool lining but these are fully lined. They're a little tough around the ankle as they're breaking in, but the footbed and everything up to there is really comfortable. Now to figure out if I want to deal with breaking them in on vacation.
By the way, these ones are made in China, whereas those guys up top of this thread are made in the USA. Not sure why, and unfortunate that the style I wanted is made there. In any event, wanted that little disclaimer in here for anyone looking.

another review up: dappered.com/2014/12/in-review-the-woolrich-made-in-the-usa-yankee-boot/i gotta tell you guys...i wore 'em for the first time yesterday and they are amazingly comfortable. the footbed was great, the upper is so supple and comfortable. love horween. no break-in period at all, they fit like a glove from the second i put 'em on. i obviously can't speak to durability (but considering the upper and the goodyear welt, i'm sure these have many years in them) so i'm not sure if they're a $300 boot but for the sub $150 pricing you can currently find them at, i give them two emphatic thumbs up!

I would go for the black one in that price if I don't have a pair of 1K Kruase. Glad that you like them and I love Horween too.

The woodwrights have me ready to pick up the yankees, the fit and feel is great. They aren't made out of the forgiving horween, though, so it was a little ambitious bringing them on vacation (my Achilles tendon has paid the price). They dress up nice, though, so they're serving their purpose. Based on wear so far, they're likely to be around a long time, too. Thinking about the natural horween yankees, though they'll put me behind on my iron ranger acquisition.

After reading two reviews and a week staring at the photos, I still cannot get over the brass eyelets. It is purely my opinion and for fashion reason only, I would skip this and get the IR instead.
