The Maine Hunting Boot is the product that launched LL Bean. That design is over 100 years old and obviously is still going strong. I have had a pair for over 30 years and wear them when I am going to be in really muddy or wet conditions. I generally will choose a pair of one of my Russell Moccasin boots or Hanwag, Scarpa, Lowa, etc, etc. hiking boots in most cases before the Beans. My guess is that they have survived for so long not because they were considered fashionable, but because they are functional in many different scenarios and are reasonably durable and affordable.

I really want to snag a pair of these when they are back in stock. Waxed canvas Main hunting boot in a six inch height.

For whatever reason I have never had a pair but do think they are a nice design and reasonably priced. For fall I wear uninsulated leather hunting boots and in winter full on insulated boots. The LL Bean kind of fall somewhere in between. I don't mind if they become a fashion thing because at least they are functional and a good price.

Had a paid years ago. Traction sucked.

I've been wearing bean boots since I was a little kid. Always had good traction in our New England winters. Never had an issue with them at all.

Maybe the MA winters I had those boots were especially icy or I was a real klutz as a kid, but I don't remember them being all that. Waterproof as hell, yeah, just not my thing. I prefer a more aggressive, grippy tread.

This is not actually the "Bean Boots" but this is a pair of the LL Bean Katahdin Engineer Boots (made by Chippewa). They are about three years old. I think they are great value and unlike my Redwings, they were comfortable out of the box. The new Cordovan color looks very nice too.
