Based on my experience with cxl, they should be comfortable right out of the box with minimal break in period.

Here is my new pair I took delivery recently. 7" Bounty Hunters in Brown Smooth. Time to start breaking them in.. Those are sweet boots. I do love myself's some Whites. I would probably do the same boot in a 6" top, to add to the collection.

I didn't notice that they were CXL until I saw the pictures of them on the box. That picture reflects the color better I think, at least that is how my semi-dress look.

You can get some good ideas there, and I'd recommend you figure it out sooner than later, as their build time will stretch out going into Spring-Summer, as they get lots of orders for Smoke Jumpers, gearing up for wildland fire fighting season.

Nice boots beerweasel. My boots were really not that hard to break in.. The only thing that bothers me once in a while is the shafts of the boots dig into my legs once in a while. This being brown smooth, I was prepared for a tough break in.. davelewis.. You should get a pair.. These are my best boots and I don't know why I waited this long. Here is a picture with some wear on them. I dyed the edges brown.

Good point Dave. OK, specs and order in by Friday! I hadn't thought of the seasonal/smoke jumper aspect. My sister used to volunteer in northern AZ every summer when the seasonal Ponderosa canopy fires would take out miles of pines. She's 5 foot 4 and fearless.

Yea, I believe White's are one of the go to boots for wildland firefighters, and one of the few models they make that stores will carry in stock. My local worksports store always has a few Smoke Jumpers on hand. Hat off to your sister! I spent my career as a structural firefighter, but have participated in a few wildland type events, and it is very hard freakin work, to say the least.

Man, that TFL thread is making it HARDER to pick a pair ha ha.....not complaining just saying there are a lot of good options. On my sister, it was funny, she was this hippy girl who took off to Flagstaff for college, ended up getting married and stayed up there. Started volunteering for the cash and adventure. She's super easy going and not one to brag but she does have some good stories about almost getting the family truck burnt a few times Cool that you were a firefighter. Even better that it seems your health is good these days. Tough work.

I was fortunate to start firefighting in the early 80s, as the dept. I worked for mandated SCBA use. When I started, I worked with a buch of old "smoke eaters", who thought using air packs, were for pussies, but sadly, a lot of those guys retired out at 50, and most were dead in a year or two. It was a great job for me, but glad to be retired. The only real thing I miss about it, is the camaraderie of the guys, as you end up spending 1/3 of your life with them. It really is a family. That, and blowing through intersections with red lights flashing, and air horns of course, LOL

So my brown CXL Semi Dress came. Custom ordered through Bakers. WooHoo! They were supposed to have red liners, I got brown instead. I think the guy making my boost said "red liners....not on my watch mister" and put brown in. Size 12D. I'm 13 in runnng shoes and Vans, 12 in Chuck Taylors and 11.5-12 in dress shoes. Size worked out perfect as the pronounced arch is in the right spot. I Love 'em! My camera was broken so I had ickes come over with his potato.

I thought you ordered these like less than a month ago, or is it just me. If so, you got these quick! I'll bet you'll be looking for some leather laces in no time, as mine came with the same, and didn't last very long.

Thanks, davelewis. I was shocked that they came this early, I think they must have some CXL uppers pre made and ready. True on the laces. I opened these things up, the smell of leather and boot cement wafted out and and I looked the boots over, awesome build quality and heavy well made boots. Then I pulled out the laces. What? These can't be the laces I'm actually going to try cutting a set myself. My draw gauge should be able to handle it, my skill is yet to be determined.

OK more pics. I love these. I have ridiculously high arches and these are hands down the best fitting/feeling boots I have ever owned. I don't even need to use my orthotic inserts (they can stay in my running shoes now). If I didn't have a sliced clothing budget (money is going to start up/biz stuff) and have my sights set on a new pair of brogues this year, I'd grab a second pair of these without hesitating. Build is as follows (from the baker invoice) Brown CXL Red Got a surprise Brown Liner Medallion Toe Cap All Nickle Eyes, no speedhooks Natural Edge Standard Heel 1/4" Lower Vibram 700 Sole

I love mine because, although they are heavy riding boots, they are comfortable to either ride, or walk in all day long, with that comfortable arch.

davelewis, you're killing me man....or at least my wallet. I was looking at those the other night. I've never had an engineer cut boot before as they were always flat arched and not suited to the fit I need. With the Whites arch though, it's a whole different story.... Maybe after fire season if I have the fun money I'll go for it. Lucky my old riding boots are still serviceable or I'd be looking at another hole in my wallet already.

I was going to get the 100 lug on my Nomads, but I also did not want 2 pairs of boots with the same sole. After riding my DR650 yesterday, I am glad I am going with the half sole on the Nomads. The lugs get 'stuck' on the pegs of my DR
