Wanted to share my recent (and great) experience with the LD repair service offerings.
I had some ebay score (cheap) selvedge jeans gathering dust in my closet due to the fits all being a little off so took advantage of the 50% off sale that was going on at the end of 2014 and purchased a slew of denim alterations/repair services. I am very glad I did!
My order was order #2089 purchased on Dec 31st. I sent in 7 pairs of jeans (2 of them were non-selvedge fiancé jeans) around Jan 7th and got them back on Feb 21st. I chatted with Roman once at the beginning of February to make sure they got them and he told me that alterations are done on Saturdays and not in the same queue as the new product wait.
As others have stated, the craftsmanship on all the work done is top-notch. The turn around time for alterations on 7 pairs of jeans was completely acceptable to me. I usually pay $30 and have waited two weeks just to have jeans chain-stitched at the denim shop around the corner.
The details:
Tapering- I had 4 pairs of jeans tapered including modifications to the thigh, knee and cuff. They all came out spot on except one which is a little tight. Luckily these are black jeans that I can now wear to pull off the Metallica look mentioned in another thread! All tapers were done to the inseam with triple stitching. I now have a pair of Gustin jeans with a triple stitched inseam!
Alterations- I have a pair of gray Hilfiger jeans that have always been a love / hate piece of clothing for me. I love the denim but wasn’t in love with the cut and hated the Hilfiger branding on the coin pocket and buttons. LD tapered these exactly to spec, added a new coin pocket in gray denim, changed all the Hilfiger buttons to LD buttons and even replaced the rivets with hand-hammered LD rivets. This is now one of my favorite pieces of clothing!
Chain stitching- They chain stitched 2 pairs exactly to the requested length. The chain stitch looks great and is cleaner than the $30 chain stitch I usually pay for. And with the sale, this was only 5 bucks per jean.
Darning- they put back together the backside of my skate jeans. It’s not pretty as the blowout was across the entire butt but the work is solid and my favorite skate jeans are back!
I’m super happy. With the 50% off sale, the bang-for-buck feeling I have is off-the-chart. I am definitely looking at ebay selvedge denim differently after this.
