I'v been giving some hints at this but it needs to be addressed.
Full custom: Is currently only available by coming into the shop where you will get measured the correct way and how we base our custom measurements off of. While there you will get the full treatment by choosing exactly want you want without any real restrictions. Every single measurement will be specific to you. Once you have been measured from head to toe and chosen all your fabrics and extra details we take the measurements and hand them over to a specific person to make the pattern. The making of the pattern for your specific body measurements requires a detail oriented person who understands math (we do it manually) and who knows how to cut the pattern based on the numbers he/she comes up with. This process takes upwards of 2 hours just to complete the pattern. This step because its specific to a person and not a universal pattern based on pre set measurements for a size chart adds cost to the garment. The price for a full custom garment in the store is roughly $198 for a pair of jeans. The pockets, buttons, thread or any other detail is not what makes a full custom garment custom , its the added step of a new pattern being cut that brings the higher price. Yes certain details like wanting maybe some 15 oz denim as pocket bags can also change the price but its the pattern that takes a lot of time and money to do. Pattern makers are highly skilled people who require a different type of pay structure.
Semi Custom: Is what we currently offer on the site with the ability to choose waist size and inseam specifically. The other measurements are not going to be changeable moving forward unless there is some absolute need where none of our fits match your needs in a particular area. For instance if you are 6'8 and you need length to your inseam or arms. When placing an order you will have an opportunity to choose fabric, thread color, buttons chain stitch and whatever else is available at the time of your order. Requesting anything else that is not listed as an option will not be allowed. Basically you need to find the closest option available
Explanation: For all the reasons stated in the full custom options we needed to enforce this. This is not a sudden change but has always been there. We decided to allow it so people could get a feel for the sizing and options. By allowing this to continue we lose money on every semi custom billed item that is getting the same time and attention as full custom item's. 2 Semi custom items can be made from start to finish in an hour or so and then the next can be handled. When you add the pattern needing to be cut you literally add about 1,5 to 2 hours to the time which pushes orders back further and further. I would say maybe 75% of orders have crossed over to full custom in one way or another. If you are wondering why cant we just take a bit off of here or a bit off of there on the pattern, we could but that's where you make for a pattern that just doesn't add up mathematically or visually. Everything works off each-other just like if you take the foundation of a home and change it a bit without taking into account what that may do to the balance of everything. I think some of you may have brought this exact thing up when you ask for even just the hem to be changed without adjusting the calf or inseam. We want to get to a point where we are as efficient as possible so we can get to a point where you place an order and 1.5 - 2 weeks later your item is on your body. (we strongly believe we can get there but this is one of the ways that will help us become efficient but also stay profitable. Just so you guys know 3 sewers touch each garment and each gets paid off that garment so any extra work with such an amazingly priced garment can throw so much off with our obvious low price point. Add on top of that the 50% off code and not only do we not make money but we can lose money if orders take to much time to be made causing over time which is more money paid to employees . We need to keep everything tight or else the model wont work and thats not what any of us want. On top of the sewers Roman, Laura and myself are answering emails, chat and order messages literally all day (More than you can imagine) without any time for anything else like getting up photo's of fabric we just bought or creating a new item. All that gets pushed because people want their messages answered and we believe they should. You can also add to all that.. potential confusion. I have witnessed orders get changed everyday which i understand because we see all these great options but imagine how that could potentially cause an issue with you getting what you wanted.
This will make for a better experience for everyone to assure orders are going out on time as well as allowing us to continue to make a good garment you can appreciate.
We hope you understand and if there are any questions feel free to respond here. Also when sending a request it is fine to send it to the info@lawlessdenim.com email but its a lot easier to respond and address an account or order when you use the order message option right from your acct page in the web-store. For instance if you are needing to adjust something like the waist , you can open that order and send a message that will come to us with that order attached to the message. This helps keep everything in order so every message or note is attached to your specific order and acct, where the info email is not linked to the web-store and wont show our response there with your acct or orders. I think its good for you guys to see everything all together anyway.
We will also be implementing a time frame of when you can make changes to your orders. After that day the orders will be locked in. This will also help keep things moving forward. Certain instances we will allow a change after this day like you chose a XXXL jacket but really are a Large.
