When you guys downsize 0.5 and wear with thin socks, how's the fit? Does it have heel slippage? Thinking as in my country we always wear thin socks. Thinking of sizing down 1

I just received my 1K boots and they are perfect. I love the smell of leather, I downsized 0.5 and I still have a bit of room.

I kinda like the Wolverine Krause boot. Any of you have experience with this boot? Half size down? Might have to call the shoe bank and see if they've got any seconds laying around

I wear size 8.5 in both Krause and Red Wings. 9 in New Balance, Adidas and Allen Edmond. 9 or 9.5 in Nike.

I took them out for a 10km walk in snow and ice. They were very comfortable to walk in and there was no break-in period. But the leather soles are not designed to handle winters and they seem to be totally scratched and semi-destroyed by walking outside once. I'm going to put some rubber soles on them.

Thought about getting 1000 Miles and putting rubber on also. This is what moved me to get Red Wing Beckmans. Leather soles and snow do not mix well. Slippery also. Even some rubber soles are slippery on ice/snow.

The soles on the 1k's are oiled, compressed leather and rubber soles don't adhere well to them, even after they've been abraded and broken in.
After a year of wear, my 1k's needed to be completely resoled. I opted for regular leather, broke them in for about a month, then had rubber sole put on them.
They handle much better than the oiled leather and can be replaced when worn through.

Even with my non-rubber soled 1000 Miles, I wasn't slippery. I was just shocked at the state of destruction of the soles after one use.

I was just shocked at the state of destruction of the soles after one use. It's their major downfall. I never wear my US-made 1000 Mile boots if it's wet outside - and even when I do wear them it's almost always when driving to an indoor event or just for short walks from my house or car to pubs, bars, restaurants etc. To my mind, the soles are such that they have to be treated like dress shoes. The notion that they're 'work' or walking boots - in stock form - is actually fairly laughable. The China-made 1000 Mile range is actually way better in that regard, the rubber soles mean they can be worn whenever/wherever. I'll usually wear either the Ascot or Wyatt if it's wet outside. If it's icy or snowing I'll go for the Montgomery (Commando sole).

When you guys downsize 0.5 and wear with thin socks, how's the fit? Does it have heel slippage? Thinking as in my country we always wear thin socks. Thinking of sizing down 1 I wear the same socks with all my footwear and am a Brannock measured 8.5 UK (9.5 US) Although all of my 1000 Mile pairs are a 8 UK (9 US) my socks are fairly thick and there's still plenty of room - pretty sure I could actually wear a 7.5 UK (8.5 US) and they'd be fine length wise, although my feet are a little wider than average so I stick with the half size up. But, yes, if you're going to always wear thin socks and you're only just at the size above, I'd think a full size down would work OK (assuming your feet aren't especially wide). Also worth remembering that the Horween leather used is very pliable straight out of the box, so if they wear a little on the snug side they'd stretch out and conform quickly and easily.

I also wear my 1k's in my Brannock size, same as AE sizing. With the soft leather they do start out just a little tight but break in perfectly.
Of course I also don't size down for Chuck Taylor's, something nearly everyone seems to recommend.
I have considered resoling these with a Dainite sole when the time comes.

I think that is a good call. I wear 10 in sneakers, etc but 9 in Wolverines. I generally wear thinner style/ dress socks with my 1ks.
Today I'm wearing the Krause after wearing the regular 1k captoe boots yesterday. The Krause is a heavier more substantial boot. The soles are welted instead of sewn on and seem/ feel thicker. The heel cup is an actual piece of leather sewn on instead of the regular decorative stitching. there are no hooks at the top of the Krause, eyelets all the way up.They run slightly wider and that's a plus for me. I have high arches, and while I think the McCleans will stretch out to accommodate, the Krause are fine right away. I feel the Krause to be a better boot, if you like the color choices. I personally don't like the rust which is why I got brown McCleans.

I liked it much better that way. Sold mine now because of the sizing issue.

I've been eyeing a pair of black Krause's. The bargain hunter in me is wondering, what would the Krause owners here say is a great deal for them ?

Aside from the rare 1k shell offerings, I've never considered a pair of Wolverines. This guys pair illustrates why

Wasn't there a member here that had quality issues with Red Wing? And I get zero traction on any surface with my Beckmans, and much better footing with my Wolverine Rockfords. Instead of looking for pity votes on the net, they need to contact CS and get it taken care of. I'm sure Wolverine will stand by their products just like Red Wing will. And it's hard to believe that's less than four months of non-continuous use in an office environment.

Aside from the rare 1k shell offerings, I've never considered a pair of Wolverines. This guys pair illustrates why I work a construction trade. I've gone through pairs of steel toes in 4 - 6 months. These look to be in very similar condition as mine have turned out. I may be wrong, but I don't believe Wolverine intended their Heritage line of boots to be abused like this. This guy obviously put them through hell.
