You know who holds the sewing knowledge now the in US? Immigrants. Primarily from Latin America and Asia. This, to me, is a solid argument for easier immigration. The demand for this skill exists...hopefully hired following appropriate labor laws and as a bonus, union organization! And its probably been this way since the 50s-60s. I think back in the day, that's what a lot of housewives that got jobs would do, but times have changed and women don't want that kind of work. I'm totally for immigrants with skills coming here to fill the needed gaps, as some jobs Americans don't want to do anymore. same reaon(s) that we have a shortage of skilled trades workers in many areas (plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc)...for decades we've over sold and overpriced college as the best/only route for students and eliminated vocational training across the board. We've also demonized union labor, immigrants, and value cheap/flimsy wares (a-la walmart) over their higher priced, sturdier counterparts. we are in the minority...96% of the population are perfectly fine with the ability to walk into any macy's or suburban outlet store and pick up a pair of levi's for $40. so this isn't likely to be reversed unless something severe happens and the masses (who ultimately vote with their dollars) are willing to pay more specifically to have items produced here. well...and apparently only half of the population (women) should be sewing anyway

Even though I don't need any more heavy shirts I can't wear to my office, I was looking at that indigo terrycloth shirt. Still MiUSA! It's on sale at $98. You have one of those right? How do you like it? Any fades yet?

How do you like it? Any fades yet? I really like some things about it, and some things I really dislike. I wish I'd waited for the Tebow (3Sixteen) selvedge one for the Western front yokes, selvedge and top button, but it's double the price, so it should be better. Likes, the color is great, dark enough to work with anything but brand new jeans. The snaps are nice, they have a little depth to them. Most of the fit, the shoulders, chest and sleeve length are perfect. It's warm as all hell. I've worn it with 20 or 22oz denim into the 20's with nothing over it and the collar popped and it's great. It breathes better than a flannel inside too, so it's a lot more versatile than a 9+ oz flannel. Dislikes, it's short, especially in the front, and the tail likes to roll up and skirt out a little. My wife refers to it as a towel with snaps. Pockets are uselessly small and they didn't cut the pen slot through like on my bait and switch Portuguese one. Cuffs are absurdly small, and being snaps, nothing I can do about that. I haven't washed mine, probably 30-40 wears on it, but I assume terry will not have sharp, contrasty fades, more of just a soft lightening in the wear areas. I'm okay with that for this one. It smurfs the shit out of things though. My kid's got a humidifier in his room and I clean it every day. The wall where I plug it in is crocked up, primarily from this shirt. I'd consider going up a size to try to make the cuffs and length better, but then it would lose some of the heat trapping quality of the tighter fit. I'd buy another for the price, it's pretty unique and aside from the much cooler Tebow, there's not much like it.

Looks best with faded jeans I use mine to travel in

Agree with DigDug/Bentin - its a great shirt. Looked hard at that 3sixteen one, but cost/TS fit won that one for me. Bentin is right on fading too, nothing drastic to see there.

You are all making compelling arguments. However, I just got two ratio shirts a month ago with another waiting for me when I get home. PLUS, I don't give my heavy IH shirts the wear they deserve as it is. I gotta sit this one out. I do like the fabric and snaps though.

Shipping is $11CAD for orders under $250 or free over that. It's a good, but not great price. Retail was $245 USD. Of course there aren't many left, so if you want one, it's about the only price going.

Still don't understand how you sell moving production to China and not lowering prices one bit. Dicks.

Still don't understand how you sell moving production to China and not lowering prices one bit. Dicks. I know I'm not the first person to say this, but it bears repeating. When you move production to China, there is literally nothing that separates you from dozens and dozens of other brands.

I suppose I can understand their stance (maybe) of they are minimizing their footprint by constructing where they source...however, thats my thing to - no longer made in the US. Unless they managed to have some great relationships that let them get unique fabric - they really are just another j. crew. However, they tend to keep referencing patagonia, so maybe they want to be more like them.

I haven't been paying attn to t.s. much since they switched a majority of their production over, but will say that I'm not absolutely opposed to China production...as you mentioned Patagonia. They are insanely hands on with their supply chain...painstakingly so from business, social, environmental, and quality perspectives. Their ultimate desire is to track the supply chain down to where the seed is planted into the dirt.

I'll probably end up with that new Army shirt and the Tan chamois shirt.
I know Mic, but well fitting solid staples work for me.
I've been moving away from patterns a bit in my winter clothing. I'm getting plaid-ed out.

I'm wearing my TS Army Jack today. I love the fit, material and that's it's MiUSA. If it were made in China, it would just be another shirt though. $20 is sort of my ceiling for MiC shirts. I've got to pay for this MiC iPhone X somehow...

I've got to pay for this MiC iPhone X somehow... Nice try and thanks for the thought. I remember seeing these guys a few months back as that black camo shirt caught my eye. They have bad sleeve measurements. I need to know what the shoulder is or the entire sleeve length from center back to bottom of sleeve, you know, like your supposed to list it. Also, as I have been getting weary of plaids I have also grown weary of button down collars. TS chamois shirt is just about a perfect fit for me and their new MiC army green shirt does not have a button down collar. Bonus for me. Basically I'm trying to avoid buy button down collars as I'm just tired of them.

Agree on both counts. Don't like button down collars and not giving shoulder measurements makes all your other measuments meaningless.
