Well that was Disappointing Received a nice pair of Alden's. was all excited to have my boys join me in wearing some nice quality shoes/boots. Both boys thought they were uncomfortable and the wife simply frowned at them. I'm about ready to donate all my clothes and get a whole new wardrobe at Target Lol, kids these days...

I think there should be an Alden store or two up there in New England you could visit. Different lasts require different sizing.

When I was their age I didn't know sh*t from shinola and honestly didn't care. Have you asked them what it is they'd like? I'm kinda wondering if today's generation is more of a cash generation? I know cash seems impersonal but it at least gives them the freedom to pick and choose what they want versus what you think they want.

They (and my wife) don't understand that a pair Alden's need to be broken in. They think for $550 a pair shoes/boots should feel and fit like your walking on marshmallows or something. I explained that by wearing them and breaking them in they become like a custom fit.
As far as getting them something else..., I don't know.... They have every penny they have earned (I've made them save all of it). It made them frugal and now they like to save. They now question me on why I spend so much on some things. So cash isn't that important. It'll just go into the bank and have no meaning. I've thought of some leather goods. watch strap, wallet, belt. Maybe.

Tell them to give them until fall. If they still don't appreciate them, sell them on Grailed and buy them a closet full of beef jerky or Skittles.

A real leather belt is a gateway to quality leather goods. Boots are a very specific thing that they may or may not grow out of as they get through school -- unless they're for specific weather or actual working where the support is needed, but then it's a hard sell (in my opinion) going much further up the price scale than red wing.

My boys wear a pair of ColeHaan Chukkas (decent looking but cheep) now. They wear them frequently to church, work, out on the town. The Alden's would have been a nice upgrade and they would have had them for many years. My wife wasn't a fan of the leather sole and the boys wantedcomfort right away. I have to admit I'm Bummed about it. I thought it would have been a nice metaphor for their journy. I guess I'll give them some cash and a cross pen

I'm probably in the minority around here, but I like my Chukkas floppy and not GYW'ed. Tried on the Beckmans and was immediately reminded of a dress shoe, would buy two pair of the Weekender before going near the Beckmann Chukka.
Of course I wore Clarks all through college and have pretty trashed feet from soccer, rock climbing, cycling and probably those shitty Clarks. But I wear my various Rancourts, Chucks and Vans much more than any of my GYW shoes or boots these days.

I'm about ready to donate all my clothes and get a whole new wardrobe at Target If you still have the shoes, I'd suggest giving'em a little time. My dad gave me some all leather shoes years back and I basically laughed at them. Wore them a couple of times and said they were too uncomfortable. Stopped wearing the shoes. Then wore them a little every now and then and next thing I knew they were my favorite everyday footwear. Put holes in those things. Of course, on the down side, this route could end up being a high cost gamble.
