So my Twin Boys are graduating from high school. Id like to get them something that they will have for many years (if not for life). I thought of watches (but thought they may lose them), thought of some nice leather goods but they don't carry wallets (again they may lose them). They already have cars (beaters for now, I'll buy them something decent later), we're planning a Italy trip later next year but I can't think of anything else....
Only thing that I can think of is a pair of Alden Boots. Something they can start their Journey of Life in.
Any thoughts???

Boots are a great idea and I think that's what you should do.
I was leaning towards pocket knives, but they do loose easily.
Let them participate in choosing their own style and they'll likely treasure them even more.
Let us know which boots you go with...

That was my first thought but an Uncle gave them one already. I don't want to trump him with getting nicer ones.

that's pretty cool that your wife is on board, but navy cxl as a first pair may not be the most versatile option. Any shade of brown would be more versatile, and burgundy/color #8 would be another good color.

A pen? I got a Rotring fountain pen from my dad when I graduated high school. Not the fanciest or nicest pen, but I keep it over all others. I've had a few Visconti that would make outstanding gifts.

My dad got me a plane ticket to college. One of his friends gave me $500 cash all in ones because he was the best.

My parents gave me a Heavy Duty Mikita Drill. Then had me help build a railroad tie retaining wall. Of coarse we needed a heavy duty drill to put it togethet. I wasn't to happy with that as a gift. Funny thing is, I needed it the other day. 30 years later I still have it and it works great.

I got a Saddleback briefcase when I graduated, and I was pumped. (It was graduation from grad school though.)

The first thing I thought of was some kind of leather bag. Boots sound cool too though.

My vote goes to getting them a nice bag from www.vermilyeapelle.com/collections/bags.

Going to second (or third) some kinda bag. As a Filson fan I'd recommend their duffle or briefcase.

Yeah, I love my VP briefcase. But would have thrown it in the closet for all of college. A good duffel is hard to beat. I had a college friend that always flew in for ski trips with a checked garbage bag. Don't let your kid be that guy.

Don't let your kid be that guy. don't let him be this guy either From experience (I had a rubber jacket), you get just as wet on the inside as if you'd just skipped the jacket altogether. Odd thing about breathable materials, they actually work. See early Gore Tex for the same thing. What about a good ski/climbing/hiking waterproof jacket? Good ones are stupidly expensive and I was always trying to make cheaper ones work through college. A tent, sleeping bag, bedroll and stove? Some British hifi equipment, like a set of Tannoy bookshelves and a simple two channel amp they can stream Bluetooth to?

how about a starter DE razor set? I don't know if they care about such things but a decent razor would last them a lifetime.

I know a guy who sports a goatee because he still thinks it's the grunge era circa 1992. he also wears socks with sandals and ultra baggy dad jeans. the horror

Get something inline with their hobbies? Not sure what your kids appreciate or like to do but I would go that route.
8th grade graduation- pulsar watch 12th grade graduation- G-shock watch college graduation- money
I been wearing a watch since I was in 3rd grade so it just made sense to me.

Well that was Disappointing Received a nice pair of Alden's. was all excited to have my boys join me in wearing some nice quality shoes/boots. Both boys thought they were uncomfortable and the wife simply frowned at them. I'm about ready to donate all my clothes and get a whole new wardrobe at Target
