Did my jeans just get more expensive? Will this windback the $200 import limit from the current $600? Will US made jeans from Japanese denim become more expensive? Is Cone positioned to take advantage of any of this?

It does appear that imported goods could be impacted, but watching the overall market, I don't anticipate any immediate changes. There will most likely be statements issued and subsequent "alternative facts" to support these statements, but I don't think anything will necessarily change that dramatically.
I'd be curious to see if producers like Gustin and others who get materials from overseas will decide to leverage this for a price increase.
That said, I'm going to jump on a purchase sooner rather than later.

I don't know but Cone just got taken over by a private equity firm, which might possibly mean an increase in American denim. www.heddels.com/2016/10/private-equity-firm-acquires-cone-denims-parent-company/

I would think the new owners would be eager to get some ROI. Looking as this is somewhat old news, perhaps it, along with other factors, can explain some recent price climbs.

And today's news may finally push me to buy my first Iron Heart items...I have been debating it for months now and this may make me close my eyes and pull the trigger.

If Cone were to raise their prices I think they'd kill denim demand in the US. Why pay $220+ for Cone denim from US makers when others are selling Japanese denim for similar prices?

I think Cone denim is highly underrated. I still love it and it's one of my favorite denims to wear. It has a simple, classic, rugged look that Japanese denims can't quite capture IMO. Some say it's boring or not unique but the same can be said about Chuck Taylors, a white T shirt, or a crew neck sweatshirt but they are classics that will always look good. I will still pay for Cone denim even if there is a price increase.

I'd consider Cone denim if it were on sale but definitely not at full price. My biggest concern is that this new private equity firm will come in, raise prices and then strip the company of any value when it's all said and done. If that doesn't happen i'd be surprised.

If Roy makes a slightly slimmer fit this year, I'm all over Cone.

Considering what we already pay for denim in most cases (or have paid) and other higher-end items from outside the US, how much of an increase would it take to actually rule out denim from overseas?

If Roy makes a slightly slimmer fit this year, I'm all over Cone. I really like that Roy works with Cone mills and has them develop his fabrics. His latest unsanforized black seed Cone denim looks really nice and he also just released an unsanforized come work shirt that looks good. Stuff is always sold out though.

Considering what we already pay for denim in most cases (or have paid) and other higher-end items from outside the US, how much of an increase would it take to actually rule out denim from overseas? tough question. The most I paid for denim is around $220 for a new pair of 3sixteen, but it was the shadow selvedge which was made specifically for them by Kuroki. Most of my other denim purchases were either from G < $100 or from Fleabay < $200. I've nabbed a pair here and there from random sales but that's about it. But to answer your question, I think denim would have to surpass $300 for me to stop buying Japanese denim. But then again, I haven't purchased new jeans in awhile and can't see that changing for me anytime soon, so possible price increases all around shouldn't really matter.

More importantly, did that jackwad just jack up my tequila prices?!
Hmm, executive tariffs are a max of 15% for 150 days. I probably have enough inventory to last.
