alphatectz - While your enthusiasm is much appreciated and the new blood in this forum definitely ignites the dialog here, there's definitely a history lesson to be learned just by reading through this thread. If you want to be entertained by the dumbf!@kery of KS, just read through the Lawless thread. Quality entertainment. Granted, a lot of other companies leverage this strategy to boost awareness and sales (see: Soso Denim, Benzak Denim, Ciano), but unfortunately, many (most) of us were burned by Lawless to cause a little trepidation with Kickstarters. My advice - if one does turn up, do as much research into the company running the KS. It's little details like the clickable links and who is actually running the company. If it's clear and concise (and not tied to the FB page of the girlfriend of the Lawless founder, for example) and not making you guess where your money is going, then by all means take a flyer.

I'm done with KS. I backed two projects and have gotten screwed both times. I haven't had any issue with KS, I usually do a lot of research on products especially when it comes to electronics.

I'm done with KS. I backed two projects and have gotten screwed both times. I got screwed once. That's all it took for me to decide never again to back a KS company.

Wow, I'm actually 5/5 on my KS items. But aside from Soso, I haven't particularly been blown away by the quality of the clothes offerings. Lawless was good but we know that the "good" of that company is Manny and you can find that same quality at Indigogene. It was the orders that followed the KS that lead us down a path of zero fulfillment. Thursday boot company natural Horween boots weren't a bad score for the price, but all in all, there are better options out there. My Leonard & Church watch was decent...totally forgot about owning it until I logged in and looked at my Kickstarter account...that doesn't say much for it.

I'm done with KS. I backed two projects and have gotten screwed both times. I've been exceedingly lucky, I suppose. I got pretty good early on at picking out the shady ones (and even canceled a couple pledges before the campaign ended), though I have noticed an uptick lately of projects that don't pass the smell test.

As a reminder, though, Gustin and several others started on kickstarter and have managed to make a real business out of it. The issue with companies like lawless is not kickstarter, rather the people behind the campaign.

Pre-kickstarter they were a more traditional model providing washed and raw jeans at boutique prices and following a traditional production model (sew a run then get stores to buy them). So while they didn't technically start on kickstarter, they didn't exist as they do until now until kickstarter validated the model.
