Yes, Old Navy..you read it right. A friend told me about their T shirts a while ago and I chuckled. Then I went online and looked at the prices (very affordable) and the reviews (very good) and I thought what the hell. I got them in and damn, they are probably the best bang for your buck T that I've found.
Lightweight so they are great for summer, fit is trim/athletic, fabric is soft, they come tall sizes, and the V necks aren't too deep. Damn good shirt for the money. Right now everything is 40% off online so I just picked up 5 shirts for 36 dollars , that's not including tax and shipping though which came to 10 dollars so 46 out the door. Still not bad for 5 shirts.
I highly recommend them for what they are. Can't beat em for the price IMO.

I have a few of the T's. Great fit for me and you can't beat the price but I've found that they Pill after a few wears/washes.
I've found some decent stuff with them. For example a Navy Canvas Blazer I picked up for $15 that rivals the TS telegraph that I paid $100.

I've been through Gap, Jcrew, and BR tshirts. I settled on Jcrew and have not bought a BR shirt in 8+ years, but the ones I have from that era are still holding up well. The Gap shirts I mostly sleep in and they def stretch more than the others. All my t's are cold washed and hung on a drying rack. I'm sortof on the fence about Jcrew vs. Gustin. I wear XLT's and G's do fit pretty well but they don't have near the color selection that Jcrew does. Holy hell, this actually looks not bad. oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=85451&vid=2&pid=344766032

Jcrew Broken In Tees are solid for the cash when on clearance, which is like all the time. I got mine for about $10 each.

I haven't tried them yet. huge fan. they have them in a bunch of different colors, they're pretty consistently well made, and they're super soft. i always get the 100% cotton ones, but i've heard good things about the triblend as well amzn.com/B014073XQG

In terms of cheap t-shirts, one of your best options is to find one of the makers of blanks that fit you well (American Apparel, Next Level, Canvas, Tultex) and just load up from eBay sellers for a few bucks apiece.

This. I'm not into expensive Ts and Vs. I wear them until they're worn out, then turn them into rags. It took me a while to find the right fit. My broad shoulders required a bit of shopping around. Buying a size or 2 from several different brands became a bit costly. But, I finally found a keeper with Next Level. The 3200(v) and 3600(t) in L fit me perfectly. Most other brands, I have to size up to XL, to accomodate my shoulders. But, it leaves a tent around my waist. 100% cotton, soft, with just a touch of stretch. Length is good. Although, if you are taller than me (6'2"), you may want to look elsewhere. They've held up nicely through a number of washes, as well. I don't think I've paid more than $8 for one, either. They are a no-brainer for me.

The 50/50 ones are pretty good too, although the tri-blend fit can be weird (I've gone up to a L instead of my usual M, but then get crazy long sleeves).
