I've noticed for a while now, but I want to know if anyone else has this issue with their shirt collars...... EVERY shirt that I have, the collars are so drunken. The real annoyance isn't that the collars don't look perfect, but it's more that on EVERY shirt I have, the left side curls under, and the right side curls upwards. I've tried air drying them in the proper shape, and I've tried ironing. Both are only temporary fixes.

Collar stays if you've got the sleeves. Steam it with something in the collar if not. Heavier shirts tend to be tough to keep from doing it, so you're likely hosed.

I'm giving it a wear today to see if I actually want to keep these 3 Sugar Cane shirts that I have... They've just been chilling in my closet for a while now

I think shirt collars have the propensity to do what your talking about. I hang dry all my shirts, and find that it helps to handwork the collars when you hang them, and maybe check them during the drying process. It seems to help for me.

I think you might need to dampen the collars and resort to the dreaded iron.

It seems to help for me. this is what i do as well. i make sure they're buttoned and formed as they dry, sometimes checking/re-aligning once when partially dry for particularly stubborn shirts

I think you might need to dampen the collars and resort to the dreaded iron. About 3 weeks ago, I ironed some of my IH shirts..... It just felt to wrong. Like, I felt that I would be excommunicated from the Japanese denim world if anyone found out.

This happens when you keep a shirt unnaturally captive in a closet for an extended time. Much like an Orcas dorsal fin at SeaWorld.

For your collars use spray starch.

I've considered having the chambrays dry cleaned... I'm worried they will crease the sleeves though... And, also I like looking "slept in"... It's my shtick lol

I wonder if this curling effect is a result of twill twist?

I wonder if this curling effect is a result of twill twist? Sounds like he's having issues with chambray too, so not limited to twill. I do notice it more on denim shirts, and heavier materials, so it's almost certainly something to do with the drying process. Steaming with the top button buttoned does help, but doesn't completely fix it.

Or, you know, an iron.

I'd be interested for him to look through his inventory and see if he's generalizing on this or if this is actually happening on non-twill fabrics. You've got two layers of twill sewn together back-to-back, so there's a lot of push-pull going on as it shrinks and dries, and, you're right, heavier would likely make it worse. I also think that if the diagonals were sewn together in the same direction, the effect would be magnified, but if they were back-to-back in a crisscross manner, they would offset each other.

Did you just engineer a shirt problem?

Did you just engineer a shirt problem? At least he didn't recommend duct tape and wd-40.

I can catalogue the issue in pics, for any skeptics or non-beliebers..... Some shirts are worse than others, but seriously I've noticed to to an extent on all non-Gustin shirts (Shirts withoutbutton-down collars).

You'd better get this taken care of before heading out in Ol' Blighty. They'll banish you if you're not pressed perfectly.

It's my shtick lol That makes it easy, no hangers, toss them in a pile and pull out what you want to wear. Honestly try it on a chambray. Just ask them not to press it. My DC doesn't press any shirts with snaps normally.

I'll give it a try in England... I can't imagine the reaction and eventual denial of service for asking them (Japanese) to do something that isn't typical...
