On one of my denim shirts I noticed a loose warp thread that had been pulled up. It wasn't broken, I could still see the loop. It was big enough to put a toothpick through. I probably should have left it alone. The shirt is still raw/unwashed, and maybe that thread would have shrank back into the fabric. Instead, I cut it, so the denim is smooth again in that spot. Now I'm wondering if I did something bad, like maybe it will end up looking like a run in a stocking, and eventually turn into a hole. What do you think fellas? It's a nice shirt that I expect to own for many years and was expensive, otherwise I wouldn't be worried about it

Is it a G shirt? If so, given their price point, I'd consider it par for the course and a character element if it doesn't cause the shirt to have a gaping hole. If it's a higher end brand (like an IH or something), again maybe it's a character element. Hard to say without a pic. Can you post one for the forum to assess?

It's a higher end brand. It's brand new so I still have the option to exchange it. I didn't take a pic before cutting it. It looks fine right now, I'm just worried about how it will end up down the road.

I think cutting it is the best thing to do. That way it won't continue to pull. I think the ends should disappear into the fabric.
I do this all the time on my loose weave flannels that easily snag.
