Here's some pre-soak pics of my latest acquisition, the new black 21oz Type 3. The USP is that the weft is solid black that won't fade, but the warp will fade to grey, so sounds interesting. The sizing's weird on this though, with deliberately crazy long arms compared to the indigo 526J, presumably for bike riding. The arms also seem wider, but that might be because of the bunching due to the length. If you're a weightlifting gorilla, this would be great straight out of the box. Also, the length is a theoretically a bit shorter than the indigo, which has raised some eyebrows on the IH forum. Knowing that, I asked for the longest in my size and this came in about 0.4" more than spec, and more than my 526J, so no problems there. I wouldn't actually want it any longer. I much prefer the fit of the 526J, with the normal arms, but don't want to size down as I prefer layer room, so in the interests of science, I'm now going to do an experiment to see what happens. I'll do a long very hot soak to the arms only, followed up by a luke-warmish full soak. I'll update at the weekend with the results. No matter what, it can't look any worse than my failed CF 23oz experiment

www.tellason.com/japanese-selvage-denim-jacket-13-5-oz/Tellason just released a 13.5oz Japanese black selvedge type 3 that looks good. It's supposed to sit lower on the waist, which I prefer for truckers. I know they're probably not in the same league as IH but if you were looking for a different option Tellason might be it

More of a WAYWT, but I thought I might as well beef up this thread after our monthly trip to St Andrews, seeing as I wore this jacket. Never a shortage of Americans there, BTW IH-526-sbg, Outdoor Knitwear Woolly Pully, USAF BDU, RW IH Hawthornes

The fabric has settled down nicely as compared to the initial pics.

The fabric has settled down nicely as compared to the initial pics. Yeah, it's had a hot soak (two for the arms), which calmed it down a bit and took a little off the length. It's stiffer than the 526J, though, so needs more work.

While I'm at it, here's another close-up from a few weeks ago. The inside hip pockets are useful, and the outer ones are so neat and subtle you hardly notice them.
