Yeah, I have to get out of Dallas. I don't want my kid to grow up in this dumb town. Back to Laguna Beach, Malibu, SFO, Edinburgh, Berlin, something.

I went to middle and high school in the dallas area (mckinney), and as someone from kansas (as previously discussed), even I though it was dumb, which says a lot. Couldn't wait to get out of there. A semester at SMU sealed the deal.

I grew up all over though, my dad worked in NYC and London and I've worked in Germany, the East Coast and CA. I ended up back here when the job market tanked but it's time to work on getting out again. I'd really like my kid to be able to be outside as much as possible and be exposed to surf, snow and biking in a reasonably safe environment.

I also love Lagavullin, Oban and Scarpa for being a little more challenging. I miss the isles and really look forward to getting the kid over there once he'd enjoy it. Hoping that by that time you guys and that little island to the west have your independence.

This year is my 20th in Chicago, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.
With no disrespect to your grandfather, I absolutely hated SMU. Not a fun place for a poor kid on scholarship.

I can't imagine having gone there. I would have hated it. He taught French many years ago, I don't think he would have recognized what it is recently.

My favourites are by far the Isle of islays whiskeys and the favourites is Bowemore, Aardberg, Bunnahabain and Bruichladish. People always think Laphroig is cool but its realy a novelty imho, sure its fun with somethong different as is the other end of the spectrum like Auchenchosan but for a foundation i gotta go with the first ones. I wouldnt be surprised if there is no better whiskey in the world even tho i havent tried alot of blends and i would love to be surprised but i dont think i ever will be and have been to many many seminars and releases.

I was living in Dallas for awhile and I was fine with it. It is a bit flat and people are a bit flashy (Versace was huge back in those days). I hate the Dallas Cowboys and those truck stickers drove me bananas. The import car scene was crazy and there was definitely no confrontation at traffic night with those guys in big trucks. Guns drew and we would all in lose-lose situation. Anyway, Dallas is nowhere close to how bad the town that I just moved from. Not even close....

Haha, there are definitely worse places, but also better (usually more expensive too). Trucks do like to try to race anything down here. I've seen diesel 3500's try to take on ZR1's and McLarens. Tight boots must effect their brains.

I went to college about 120 miles from Chicago and I love the city when it wasn't winter. I got shot at only once when I was driving at Chicago, so it wasn't too bad (at least the cops said "no harm, no foul... I give you a plastic bag to block the window and now, head back up to school".

I also love Lagavullin, Oban and Scarpa for being a little more challenging. I used to live on the mainland of Scotland close to Islay and Oban, so it's nice to hear references to them. Talking about Lagavullin now reminds me more of Ron Swanson on P+R. We recently blasted through all seven seasons and loved it. It was so weird to see Ron on Islay, though, but it brought the whole thing that bit closer.

Somewhere in the midwest with a lot of cows. When I went to my co-worker's house, she had half a cow store in the two freezers in her garage. She found a nice one and decided to buy that cow with her neighbour. Just by talking about it, I am going to have nightmare tonight....

If she picked out a cow to butcher, she probably doesn't have very good red meat picking skills.

Frankly, I don't know it a cow or some animal with four legs walking on this earth.... As soon she showed me the meat, I could not hear anything she said afterward...
Btw, I do love a great piece of steak.... that was just not my life style

I got outbid by at least three people everytime when I tried to buy a house. They were outbidding us by 20% over askings. We end up buying new constructions.

While Dallas was more metropolitan than I had expected it to be (good food scene, good art scene, retail and travel convenience, etc)...9 years there was about 5 too many for me. Too geographically sparse, socially conservative, anti-bicycle, and mid-country for me.

I don't know about a crash but I can definitely see "price adjustment" coming.
I first lived in the BA in the 80's and I was here during the pre-run up before Black Friday, Internet bubble and the subprime. This time is the craziest ever. My rent of our three bedrooms apartment is obscene (trust me on that), and we are not even living in a nice area. We are also being totally priced out from areas that has reasonable commute (less than an hour) to either San Francisco or San Jose. People are outbidding us by a huge margin and we are not remotely competitive. Some sellers even screened us out since they only take all cash offers. Most of the houses we saw normally sold in 7 days (Sat/Sun open house. Tue/Wed submit bids. highest bid on Friday win)
Still, I am happy to be home.

They want subprime back. Just calling it by different names. Bringing back forms of stated income.
Homes near me are pretty over priced right now. Between 2010 and now my little house went from $130k-$167k nothing fancy at all. Hopefully I can turn a good profit and can afford to buy from IHUK! Just kidding.
