So, I've got this friend who's never owned a pair of denim higher end than J Crew. He's intrigued by raw / selvedge denim, but far too frugal to buy himself a pair. So I want to buy him THE BEST pair of pure, raw, selvedge denim. I'm willing to pay anything under $500. I KNOW this will be the one and only pair of raw selvedge he'll own, so it needs to be perfect. I figure loomstate.. but what brand, model, etc. ?? (He prefers a very slim, but not skinny fit.) Any suggestions??

Loomstate is a crap shoot, and could be up to a $500 waste of money...

Really? I had no idea... I'd prefer spending around $200-$250, I figure. Any recommendations @untucked ?
I was thinking about the Old Blue Co. Ultimate Beast's, as they still have at least 1 pair in his size...

Ultimate Beast's, as they still have at least 1 pair in his size... I agree with @untucked , loomstate could wind up a costly mistake. Once they touch water, you can't return them. They are far too unpredictable. You can go with an unsanforized denim, though. Just buy a once washed version. Iron heart IH-666-19L 19oz left-hand twill, and Oni-546zr 20oz secret are 2 I would recommend. Both can be had for around $200, or less, from Rodeo Bros. |

In addition, you may want to take a look on denimio. They've got Oni 20oz secrets, once washed, in several models, with no arc versions, at around $170. Denimio has free shipping, as well.

How/where would he wear them?
To work (what kind of work)?
Out on the town? Weekend around the home?

I'd go with a pair in the 17-20 oz, being his first pair. If anything over that I'd go Iron Hearts 21oz. I like the idea of IH signature 21oz, as well. I think it would depend upon what type of experience tashdaddy would like his friend to have. I don't have the 21oz denim, but my understanding is, it is wearable from the get-go. Whereas, the 19oz left-hand is a more formidable opponent, to which I can attest. Price is also a consideration, with IH. If he prefers a very slim cut, the 666 may not have a significant enough taper to the hem. In that case, he may have to give consideration to the 777 and 555 cuts, which are only available on IHUK. |
