my trumans are on the way back to me so hopefully fit is better so i can put them to more work. I have worn my shell junkards a couple times since I got it and its pretty cool. I like how the shell changes color in the sunlight to night...a bright aqua blue to a dark blue.

Luckily for my wallet, I only had enough time to look, not do the serious try-them-on thing. I had to rush to catch the NJT to EWR (why is NYC serviced exclusively by shitty airports?), only to find out my flight was delayed two hours.

How are those shoes? Did you size down? I did size down based on feedback I had read and directly from Kyle at Baker's. The wait was LONG, and they arrived with a sole that hadn't been trimmed nearly enough from Nick's (Christy sole). Kyle asked me to send them back to him so he could have it fixed. They trimmed the excess in house at Baker's and got them back to me pretty quickly. They're very stiff, even after a lot of wear. I think it's mostly the double leather/christy combo. They're comfy but due to the stiffness I start feeling some fatigue after a full day of wear. I expect this to disappear over time. The Olive CXL is great...waxier than I expected, but the color and variation in various light conditions is just what I was hoping for. Overall the process was an exercise in patience, but I'm really happy with the final product and they're exactly what I was going for.

That is such a great leather, I've been wanting a pair since I first saw them posted on Nicks page. At the moment I'm daydreaming about Engineers. I don't have a pair and I really like what IH did with those WESCOS. The brown bottom and weathered bronze buckles look sweet.

I'm in the precontemplation phase for a new pair of boots. At this point I just have a pair of RW Beckmans that I wear 5-6 days a week during the fall/winter/spring. I love them. I think I've had them for 4 years or so. Other than a resole every two years they are in great shape. Thinking of adding to the lineup, probably for purchase this fall. I am very biased towards Red Wing since I live about an hour from the factory and its a union shop. Saw these recently: www.redwingheritage.com/us/USD/product/mens-footwear/6-merchant-olive-08062I have the 9016 RW's now so I think the olive color would be a nice contrast. I also like the slimmer profile and lack of a toe box. Thoughts?

Those look good. I tried to convince myself to grab a pair of the Muleskinner Chukkas recently but just couldn't warm to them. Those are certainly better and closer in profile to the Rancourts I ended up with.

After coming back from TOR and seeing Vibergs on the shelf for close to $700 USD after GST I decided to spring for these for $500 shipped. Not sure if I will keep them, US 11. Been wanting a pair of black boots, they would join White's, Nicks, and Tricker's in the collection. GYW Black Medallion Toe Viberg Service Boot

Been wanting a pair of black boots, they would join White's, Nicks, and Tricker's in the collection. GYW Black Medallion Toe Viberg Service Boot This turned into a bad news/good news situation. The Viberg 2030 Last is too tight for me to size down one. I'm a low volume 12C brannock and these things were near exact fit with no socks and super tight with thin socks. Good news is price went down from 40% off to 60% off so at the very least I'll be able to find out if I can make the Viberg 2030 last work for me, and if I keep them I'll have a brand new pair of Vibergs for $337 shipped that globally retail for $780 USD. I have a feeling though, that these are going to be too big. I'm not a super fan of the shape, but thinking may like it better if they are a bit bigger. Guessing I'll probably end up returning for fit then fret about the Black Horsehide Whites Semi-Dress build I have in my head with a double midsole and mini-commando soles for $585. If I'm honest, I like the looks of the Whites better, though my version of the Whites would have black stitching where these have white.

The Cuban heel and bulbous toe are just not my thing, but the guy running Viberg seems to have really thin skin and a huge ego, so I just categorically ignore his stuff. Whites over Viberg, but black boots are black boots, so I just have Wolverines and they get the job done.

Whites over Viberg, but black boots are black boots, so I just have Wolverines and they get the job done. Well as discussed before, I love the Cuban heel and the toe is not that bulbous IRL. The spring toe gets the "clown shoe" look, but still tempting IMO except you need to learn to walk differently. My sticking point is the double vs. single midsole, but it's so tempting to have a real pair of shit kickers with the double. Basically, these Vibergs may be "too sleek" IMO because they are pretty much relegated to more dress wear and look a bit lacking for jeans. These are "officer dress shoe last" so meant more for pomp than work. The Whites Semi-Dress can go either way, one of the beauties of them. As far as black boots being black boots..........well, that reminds me of my wife saying that "plaids are plaids" when she pointed out at Chris Rock that I was wearing a plaid like all these other guys in the audience. When I tried to tell her that my plaid pattern was more interesting than most of those in the audience I got the "plaids are plaids" thing. Long way to say, black boots are not just black boots! I miss Dev!

I been ooggling some Whites for a while, I want the farmer ranchers or maybe the SD but in the red dog roughout or something in elk.
Looking at whitesriver weekly, hoping a black boot in a 9.5D will show up. I like the cuban heel and prefer the larger toe box because i got weird and wide toes haha.

You should just go fullblown MTO, especially when there are additional foot considerations. You talk about it with Kyle from Bakers and send in you foot tracings. You get the boot back and will be thrilled. I'm a C width, and getting them made to width has been a joy for my feet.

I emailed Kyle my measurements and he said i should be fine at 9.5D so I was going to try whitesriver then order an MTO.
I just got too many MTOs in the last two years and my fiance keeps asking how many boots I have now.

Viberg 2030 Update.
I got the size 12 in the mail today and tried them on with lighter Darn Tough wool socks. This fit is much better and still has some room for thicker socks. The heel cup just sucks your heel right in and even not broken in these are sublimely comfortable, like they become a part of your foot.
It will be interesting to wear them in Oct but they are going to sit till then. I'll have to slather them up with some Bicks, and apply some edge dressing and put them in the closet.
These are sweet boots and the price makes it even sweeter. My mind immediately went to their Derby Shoe in the same last.....

I also like the slimmer profile and lack of a toe box. Thoughts? I ended up getting the olive merchants. Really great. The color is less olive and more tan than in the pix. I wear a 13 in Beckmans and I ordered a 13 in the Merchants since they are made on the same last. For some reason the 13 in the Merchants were too big. Kinda felt like my feet were sliding in the boot, even after I pulled the laces pretty tight. Red Wing doesn't make a 12.5, so I ordered a 12 that I just got in yesterday. They are definitely OK in the length, but feel tight across the front and middle. My gut feeling is that the 12 is the right size for me and I just need to break these in a little bit. There was a break in period for the Beckmans, but it was so long ago I don't really remember how they first felt on my foot. I guess I'm mostly just looking for reassurance. Red Wing says their new boot should "fit comfortably tight on your foot with enough room to comfortably wiggle your toes". I guess that describes my situtation, although "comfortably tight" seems awfully subjective. I'll just trust these will break in. Sure wish they made a 12.5 though.

I read that you were a 12.5 then furiously went to PM you this, but of course they are sold out. This was an insane deal, I paid $480 for mine. Vermilyea Pelle X Nick's Custom unstructured waxed flesh scout boot, size 12.5D/12E, these are basically one of a kind, finished by Dustin of VP himself, worn 4-5 times $200 SOLD

Thanks for thinking of me northcoast. Those sound awesome. I reached out to the red wing heritage social media guy that I happen to know and he assured me the 12s are where I want to be. I'm feeling better about it now. I'll just #trusttheprocess.

^ I like #1 the best. The kid has had a couple pair of boots made out of that leather and I think it's pretty sweet the way it wears.
I keep thinking about buying a style like #7, but feels too dressy for what I'm wearing, and I don't really want dress boots.......
