I’m disappointed in the loss in quality of 501 over the years. Add to this the confusion over things like selvedge, vanity sizing, and what Made in USA means. I wanted what was most like the jeans of old. So, I opted for the upgraded MADE IN THE USA 501® SHRINK-TO-FIT™ SELVEDGE JEANS.(mid blue) Needless to say this is before I even knew about companies like Gustin. Like the idea of USA fabric and USA sewn. One thing I noticed about these jeans was descriptions like “Levi's® Premium Goods is a collection of modern styles in the finest raw selvedge denim from around the globe—honoring quality craftsmanship and forward-thinking design.” The other version of these jeans does mention Cone but this one seems to be vague on purpose. Are they vague so they can use the denim with the lowest cost at that particular time? What constitutes the Made in USA label by law is just more than I want to keep up with. This is one reason I like Gustin. They tell you if it is Cone denim and sometime what Japanese denim. I have read and gotten a lot of helpful information from this site. So, I figured I would show what you get with these jeans and a recent code to get 50% off the mid blue and some other listings (SALE50) To your door for $54.50 29-33,36,38W 34L available. Side note: After years of not washing my jeans for months and creating fades and holes, I never realized I was being trendy. Now, I'm beginning to notice how fake fades/creases, like on these Levis, scream store bought.        Notice the extensive stitching for the loop under the Made in USA tag. A frequent rip site for me. A nice sign of quality. Hope this helps. |

This is Levi's 'new' line that utilizes Cone denim. It is not from the LVC line. These are not shrink to fit.
IIRC, this also comes in a raw (cone denim) but not STF - and the cut is different than the LVC 1947 (501xx)
As far as quality, Japanese repros blow LVC out of the water. SC1947 is the best bang for the buck jean ever. Toyo does not disappoint.

These are not shrink to fit. Thanks for the reply. I do notice that the tag just says "Levi's Orginal Fit" Only thing I can say so far is this is how they were sold to me. Waiting for a different size at the reduced price ($54.50) to give them a soak. I'll give an update with before and after photos with a measuring tape. One recommendation, from Levis, is to buy true to fit waist, two sizes up in length and sit in the tub. I measure 38 and these fit big. Vanity sizing has got me all screwed up. I hope they don't shrink much. I need the length. Planning on going with a cool soak. As a comparison, my recent Guston denim (Black2) 38 purchase fit just a little large with no soak yet. (There back in the mail to ABfits for a hem job)  |

Here's what the label should look like, the main thing being the large, bold SHRINK TO FIT and instructions as to what that means. I wouldn't expect much (if any) shrink on the pair you have in the picture. Also, the pair you've got there is definitely washed (to that light blue color), I believe all shrink-to-fit are sold raw -- I don't know how else they could do it. Finally, shrink to fit will always shorten up unless you attach weight to them as they hang dry.  |

My first pair of selvedge (RRL) wasn't selvedge and now my second pair of selvedge is sold, by Levis, mislabeled shrink to fit. Like I mentioned before I wish I would have found this site before all this. Although I am not regretting my Gustin purchase. I will next time jump a little higher though. Iron Heart, Sugar Cane, Oni etc... Live and learn. I will be contacting Levi's because I'm probably returning the 38W for a 36W. (Already ordered) I'm trying to keep the prospective of the relatively low cost. There is also my belief that I am voting with my money to support Levi's looking at higher quality and "Made in USA" |

My first pair of selvedge (RRL) wasn't selvedge and now my second pair of selvedge is sold, by Levis, mislabeled shrink to fit. Like I mentioned before I wish I would have found this site before all this. Although I am not regretting my Gustin purchase. I will next time jump a little higher though. Mostly cause I kind of want a type iii and don't want to pay for it. For made in USA selvedge Levi's, it's not a bad price, but to sell pre washed jeans as shrink to fit is a bad idea since people won't know that they got the wrong thing until they're non-returnable. It could be a labeling thing, but all the roping at the seams indicates they've done all the shrinking they're gonna. |

The stock photo on their website looks exactly the same. Something I wasn't expecting or should I say hoping for. Why did I buy them? I have always wore 501 without giving much thought about other brands. A simple classic straight fit pair of button fly jeans. Seems I've watched jeans go from mostly straight to relaxed to now skinny tapered. My tastes have stayed the same. My eyes have been opened though. With maybe some satisfaction that someone in R&D, at Levi's, will come across a post with a title like this and see why they are losing customers. I will wait to get the new pair, compare them, and talk to customer service. Then I will update. Hoping any of this helps. It helps me understand why so many people have moved on to different brands. |

I think if you take your time researching denim, and different fits from all the makers out there, and you will find something more exciting than the Levi fare. Lots of great options. |
