New to selvedge denim and I need help with a few questions. Got tired of getting less and less out of my 501 purchases. Not wanting to spend too much at first, I turned to Eb*y. These were sold to me as "Double RL RRL Men's Raw Selvedge Denim Jeans" If I contact the seller I just want to make sure this is nonselvege. I might not return. I never like to return things or for that matter make a fuss. I also get that selvedge is not the be all mark of quality. An opinion upon paying $50 + $10 shipping for an unwashed and not soaked pair of lightly used RRL pair of jeans would be appreciated. Is ring spun a sign of quality? The listing showed the jeans uncuffed and no picture of the selvedge. (Disingenuous?) This leads me to another question. How best to get these to show less of the previous cuff marks? Sold as unwashed and not soaked. Thanks for any help.

Those are not selvedge. You've been bamboozled. If the seller listed them in the title and product description but sent you non-selvedge jeans then he either doesn't know what selvedge jeans are or he lied. Another thing he could've done was list 'selvedge' in his listing to get more page visits. Recheck the listing and see if he states anywhere that they're non-selvedge, if not ask for a return. If he doesn't comply then go through PayPal and get your money back

inkiduSorry but not Selevedge. It may be the seller just didn't know. Give them a chance to make it right.

inkidu - they're not selvedge but $60 shipped for RRL isn't a bad deal. I'd reach out to the seller and ask what they would like to do, but if they fit well and the seller isn't a jerk about it I'd keep them.

Thanks for the quick reply. No mention of non-selvedge anywhere. Motive might be just inexperience. He had only three feedbacks left. (100%) He did have some other nicer jeans for sale, and all were sold because he grew out of them. A reason most of us could relate to. The others showed the selvedge. That's what bugs me. The possibility of being purposefully deceptive. I will probably lose out on shipping, and might just take it as I should have been more careful. Side note. I did purchase these before I found this site which would have given me a better idea of someone's background/reputation. Live and learn.
Thanks for any help.

$60 for RRL jeans is cheap. You made out ok, even though they aren't selvedge.

Ask the seller to comp you a bit of a refund ($20). Then put that towards a pair of $350 Iron Hearts Or better yet pick up a pair of these - www.weargustin.com/store/2819

If you go that route, be sure to follow gustin sizing advice and don't lie to yourself. It's exceedingly rare that gustin jeans arrive over spec.

Thanks for all the replies. Seller offered a full refund even though it was sold as nonreturnable. Seller said he didn't know. I liked to give people the benefit of the doubt. This was my first pair of RAW denim, so I will consider it cutting my teeth with the pain of losing some shipping costs. I appreciate the help/tips and only wish I would have learned of this site earier. From DigDug Tip #1 - watch your wallet. There are 2 schools of thought (as far as I'm concerned) 1- buy a couple of inexpensive pairs, like Gustins Heavy Americans, Zims, American Antique (we have a small fade contest starting Jan1st if your interested on the Antique's). After you've collected 4,5,6 (a dozen) pairs then graduate to the nicer more expensive heavy pairs. Or 2- save yourself some money in the long run and go strait to the Big Boy denims (Like Iron Hearts) and limit yourself to 1 or 2 pairs.
From Winterland Good advise above. Here is some more. One of the first things is to find out what fit you like. It took me a while as I realized I like a smaller cuff than originally thought and midrise. Once you find the fit you like, measure and compare to other brands fit. Basically if you're picky about the fit it will point you to brands that have your size. From there it's about checking out if you like the heavy weight, midweight fabrics etc. Beyond that with all the different fabric types and colors the sky's the limit. Lots of info to read here that will point you in a good direction. Good luck.
Great stuff. After approx. $150 maybe (2 pair) I should have sprung a bit more for the Iron Hearts. (12% off till Jan. 2) In the mail MADE IN THE USA 501® ORIGINAL SHRINK-TO-FIT™ SELVEDGE JEANS mid blue (40% off $89.04) GUSTIN Denim Jeans size 38 Japan selvage 14.5oz raw #21 Black2 ($59.95 NWOT) Can you tell I'm a deal hunter.

Is eBay a censored word here?

inkidu - if you can go to a brick and mortar store and try on multiple fits, styles, and brands would be best. If you are lucky.
