I like the G slim cut jeans, but I find the calf area to be a bit constricting, especially when seated (and who doesn't like to be seated if given the opportunity). I'm a bit claustrophobic, so the tightness really starts driving me nuts after a while. Solution? There's an extra 1/2"+ available on the outside seams, and if you know how to use a sewing machine and a seam ripper, it's pretty easy to do. 1. Iron flat (so that the selvedge ids touch) 2. mark new seam 3. sew new seam, being careful to backstitch over the old stitching that will remain in place. 4. remove appropriate section of old stitching 5. spread seam back out and iron These are my umbers (either japan or raw, not sure which--i think japan), and the extra 5/8" in the calf makes a world of difference to me (from nearly impossible to wear to perfect). FTR, it looks like my seam is uneven, but it isn't; there was more fabric on one side than the other.

Now if only G would just make them like this out of the box.
It really is horrible how tight they are.
Now can you fix the back rise?
/needs to think about buying other companies jeans.

Yeah, northcoast , I know how you feel. I'm likely never buying clothes from Gustin again. I think I'm an average build person--I certainly don't have monster calves--and the slims are baggy in the thighs and tight in the calves. They're like Canadian Mountie pants. What's worse, they catch on my calves then ride up my legs. I've been pretending for the last couple of years that these things work for me. However, I have a lot of pairs, so I'm going to alter them to make them fit better. I think I'm going to try Ciano after he catches up on his orders. EDIT: I should mention that my best fitting Gs are Loomies because they ended up in the middle between slims and regulars from the knee down.

Yeah, I guess I should measure my calves and get this over with once and for all but mine I dont think are super large either. The thighs fit me fine though.
As to the jeans riding up, I found that if I cuff them it does not happen. I have been thinking about hemming them but thats like another $25 a pair so I think I'm going to just keep turning them up.

I just measured mine. 16". I don't know if that is small or large, because I only have two of them, and they are both the same size.

I have huge calves and don't find slims to be tight in the calf area. Thigh? Way tight.

I also think the calves are tight on the G slims and I do not have big calves. I think they are tight in the thighs as well. The G slims are just too tight on me in general and border on skinny jeans.

Or get some IH777s ! I like IH666, however, they could use some improvement (as they're apparently designed for Giles with monster calves and girly thighs;) and the 777s look killer. Feel exactly the same about the G slims.

I did round 2 this weekend . . . this time on a first run pair of cone pima fires. Here's a shot of both the outside and inside. It's relatively undetectable when wearing them, especially with the streakiness of the CPF fabric. I'm loving this alteration, as it gives the same factor of extra fabric all throughout the leg area. I think that if you do this, it has to be done before there is much wear and definitely before washing/soaking, otherwise there will be a dark racing stripe down your leg. The exception is non-indigo pairs (my Umbers had been washed and there was no color variance in the newly exposed fabric) that have little fade. Going to try this on my Zimbs next.

So, I probably need to do this to mine, but I am finding that the hips/seat on the slims is a little small. There is quite a bit of stress being put on the second button of the fly. The top button and bottom two are fine (after the waist stretches). Does anyone know what the seat/hip measurement on the slims is usually? Does anyone know if the straights have just a little more room in the seat? I'm just worried about the fabric weakening and ripping at that button.

I'd like a little more room in the slims in the calf and a little more rise in the rear.
I wore a pair tonight for like the 8th time that had been bothering me in the calf and I finally stretched them out enough that I didn't have that twisty annoying calf feeling in my one calf thats bigger than the other.
Furthermore, as to the waist and rise issue, I have cranked my belt another notch so it's tight around the waist and they don't fall.
Not optimum, but it works. The calf thing only really happened bad on one pair I owned and the others have been fine.

I also have been eyeballing a pair of Oni's. I had one pair of straights and returned them as I cant stand the saggy crotch and the bellbottoms PM me your suggestions if you could. Thanks.

I know some people really can't stand Naked & Famous because of their patch (and name), but I have found that the Super Skinny Guy in 34 is very similar to a Gustin 33 Slim but with just a little more room throughout (it seems). My Fire Monkeys are breaking in very nicely. The Weird Guy is even roomier and probably closer to a G straight. It might be worth a look.

Based on measurements I'm not convinced I could squeeze into super skinny guy, but I did find that the weird guy was very close to Gustin slim with a little more room in the calves when I ordered the same size (33w.g. vs 33slim), so sizing up would likely buy you a bit more room. I think the weird guy is a nice fit.

They don't have a ton more room (maybe .25-.5 in), but that little bit makes all the difference. The couple of pairs of 33 Weird Guy that I have definitely feel like they have a lot more room, after washing, than my G 33 slims.

The Weird Guy looks really good in the pics but if IRL it comes out that way I think I'd prefer the Skinny guy. I'd just like a touch more on the calves and a little rear rise.
